Waitlist!!

There is some hope, but the chances are pretty slim to be taken off the waitlist.

The chance of taking of the waitlist is only around 7% at best and around 3.6% at worst. That's ridiculous, you have a higher chance of getting into a Ivy league uni than being taken off the waiting list. Judging from the stack of rejections I got from Ivy League and co, I am probably on the bottom end of the waitlist. Personally, I have no hope of being taken off the waitlist, it's a shame the my IB results won't available in time to send them to the admissions office,

Just for interest, what are your academic credentials?

I have:
2000 in both SAT I + II (yeah I know, SATs suck)
42 predicted in IB (judging from my HL History and HL English exams it will probably be 40/45)
Recommendations are perfect
Essay is alright

Um yeah, looks like I'll have to enjoy umich, I heard the girls there are really nice, I guess there is a good side to everything.

in the article it says, "40 of the waitlistees have already been extended offers to join the class of 2010...", since there are only about 40 spots left anyway, does that mean the rest of us have no chance whatsoever at all? anyone on this board heard from Williams already?

I read it the same way - it seems that offers have already gone out to 40 waitlistees. I would guess they'll give those students a week or so to decide, and then may go to the waitlist again to fill any remaining spots.

How were the accepted waitlistees notified??

My guess is either email or regular mail or both.

Are you ppl also waitlisted at Williams? If so, what other options do you have besides Williams?

University of Michigan, you?

Middlebury...

Btw... why does the article first say that williams already extended offers to 40 waitlistees, and then few paragraph later.. say that the admin office INTENDS to admit more international students, like they haven't decided yet...

I have Macalester and U Waterloo in Canada, LSE in England. I have to decide between them. What do you ppl suggest?
I have also been waitlisted at Duke, anybody knows what my chances there could be? How many ppl is Duke taking off the waitlist this year?
Are you guys international students?

definately LSE, if money doesn't matter..

what do you people think about my previous post?

Yeah, I am Ukranian.

LSE is pretty good, one of the best in the UK IMHO. But from what I heard it doesn't compete with American Unis. My father's friend's son studied in LSE and then he transfered to Colombia (before that he studied in a uni that was on number 54 or something on the usnews rankings), he said American education was much better than education in the uk. But he was studying economics. A word of warning though, he was Indian (I am half Indian as well) and many Indians tends to be biased against the Uk and pro-America.

If I where you I'd wait for Duke, cause thats such cool place to go IMHO. When do you have to send in deposits for Waterloo and Macalester, cause UK unis can wait....

Yeah.. this is sort of confusing, but re-read the parah of the article.. it states that it took 34 intl. from RD, and now intends to fill in the class with more intl. students. This may mean that it has already taken more intels. off the 40 waitlistees taken.

What do you think about my chances at Duke??

@acceptance

I think all places have already been allocated, the internationals stuff is probably PR stuff about how they are taking more internationals.

I have already sent the deposit at Macalester.. Waterloo's deadline is
June 5.... So supposing I dont get into Duke.. which uni. would you have preferred? And why?

How did your father's friend transfer to Colombia? Is it that easy?
Also, do you think we can go to a college for a year, and then apply as a freshman to a few colleges again, from where we are studying? Or do we need to transfer? I heard transferring isn't that easy...?

Um, he transfered. It wasn't easy, but not only did he get into Colombia but they also provided with financial aid. I don't know the details, but my guess is his academic credential were outstanding.

You can't apply as a freshman again, I have no solid info on this but I think you have to transfer. Yeah transfering is very hard from what I heard. Ironically, I want to tranfer ASAP as well, cause Michigan isn't good enough.

If I where you I'd probably go to Macalester, but I have no info on Waterloo? How good is Waterloo compared to say McGills? I probably wouldn't choose LSE, but my father's friend's son could have been wonrg. I don't know, for economics I think it is better to study in North America....

I want to do a major in Math/ related fields.. Do you know if Macalester is good enough for math? Are you paying to go to Michigan? And what would be prospects of getting into a good grad. school if I study in Mac? Would I be able to compete in the US job market?

i talked to the admission officer, they notified waitlistees by phone.

Do you know , by any chance, whether Williams will take any more waitlistees?
My friend got in two days back, the only one from Pakistan. He isn't sure that he will go or not. If he doesn't, will that make a chance for me, as only one other person from the country is waitlisted, and none of the admitted three ppl went thr.???

too bad people... good luck at your future colleges
