Waitlist

So I am still waitlisted for a college. I am so eager to hear back from them, and I keep checking my email. I decided to email them a short paragraph about how I will definitely attend if they accept me. But I did not include anything about how I have improved or my strengths. Do you guys think this just worsened my chances of being accepted off the wailist? I’m worried that I might sound like I’m just being annoying and begging them.

Is your college counselor working with you on getting off the wait list? Advocacy through the college counselor has a better chance of success than additional emails from you. But to answer your question, your emails are unlikely to hurt your chances.

It is good to let them know it is your top choice and you will attend. That won’t hurt you.

You’ve not hurt yourself. But the best advice is to simply let it go and move on. The initial wave of WL offers already went out. Treat it as a rejection and if a miracle offer comes in later, celebrate. Checking your emails daily? You’re wasting precious emotional energy. Focus on upcoming graduation, having a great time w/your family & friends this summer and a fantastic Fall in your chosen college.

This longing for the slim to no chance WL offer is harming you, IMHO.

Once you accept the chance is extremely low, I would continue checking. I would also continue writing at least once a month or better having your GC get in touch. I have gotten off of two WLs. Both times I was given very little time to contact the school and at least discuss it with them (24 hours) both times it was from emails. In one case it was to my parents as well but one time it was just to my email. Both were top schools.

I agree the first waves have gone out and some schools will not be using them at all, there is another thread on that. I know several people in prior years who were notified in early June. Have you checked the wait list threads for the individual schools. Usually you will know from that whether a wave has gone out
