Anyone know when we will hear about being wait-listed? thanks..

anytime soon..many have heard already...

Calls went out last week and emails followed by Friday of last week.

BTW

Deadline for the waitlist-accepted of last week is today.

So, I would expect new list to go out this Friday or Monday.

my waitlist acceptance isnt due 'til the 5th, this friday.

Father of the Boarder-

I'm waitlisted at rice, and i was just wondering if you had any clue about how they're accepting people. In the letter they sent out they said they'd review the entire pool of applicants after may 1, but clearly they chose not to wait. Do you think they're choosing candidates based on a first-come first serve basis?

I'd appreciate any thoughts you may have.
thanks.

They reviewed as soon as they realized that they were not going to meet full yield (something they planned on).

The first round is only small number of wait-listees(I think). But no worrys, though, I think there's a second (or third) round after the second week of May.

Thanks for replying guys. How do you think they're separating these 'rounds' though? By the time when the reply cards get to their office, by simply taking the priority WL'd kids first, by location or...?

i got an email today from rice asking my status of the waitlist
asked me if i was
a) def going if accepted
b) seriously consider
c) take me off waitlist
i chose b because im pwl for cmu.
did everyone get this or and will this somehow improve/decrease my chances?

pwl means u gotta go if accepted... it will leave u scraps..

The first seats goto A.. and the remaining goto u guys at B...

if any of you sent in extra things (letters, recs, etc...) to the admissions office after being waitlistec, to whom did you address the info?

I think you can just address them to "Dear Sir or Madam of the Admissions Committee", or "Dear Julie Browning"... I don't think it really matters. It just goes into your file after all.

zmcklein --- they way they accept people is a mystery. It's definitely not all priority waitlistees. The number of waitlistees that they take on 2nd round depend on the matriculation of the first round waitlistees (if you know what i mean).

alykat04 --- send to the admission officers or regional representatives would help. I would have your GC talk to the officers/RR rather than calling them on your own account.

yeah... i was priority waitlist and have not heard anything... is everyone that is getting in off the priority wait-list? thanks

the thing is i'm a transfer waitlistee....so i'm not really sure about the regional rep and such...

I got the same email today as hhjl87.....what does this exactly mean though....does it mean (if we marked A or B) that Rice would be calling us soon and offering admission? If so, when do you think they'll call

cm8333 - i'm priority also, i haven't heard anything. i did get that email that some of the others here have gotten though. not sure which one im gonna mark yet though.

MIT K- from what people are saying it seems like they're making the calls in rounds. looks like the first round will be completed tomorrow (based on previous posts... their deadlines were this week) and, since the email that i got is due back by 5/8, they're probably going to sort the emails into two groups that week, deliberate, then start calling people as soon as they're done w that to start their second round. i guess this cycle is gonna continue until they reach their desired #.

well MIT K, someone said that they pick A first on first round waitlists then B option on second round but if u think about it, they should be picking B first then A cuz u know that A people are coming and B might not be so u can weed out the ppl not coming on frist round then on second you can fill out exact number of ppl cuz u know A people are coming.
BUT then again A ppl would want it more than the B so it might only be fair to pick A first and fill up all the spots.
I chose B but now i kinda regret it cuz it makes me seem like rice might be second option but now it isnt since i got rejected off pwl in cmu.
Should i call them up and ask them to change to A?

Well, here's a bit good news, hope it can cheer you priority waitlistees up a bit... i probably won't matriculate to the waitlist acceptance... due to many reasons.
