Waitlist

Momtofour - any news on the waitlist from last night?

Good news concerning the waitlist! I spoke with Alisa Fisher last night at an admissions meeting. She said that they will be taking about 100 from the waitlist out of 500. They will start working that today! (I am not sure if that meant they are going to start reevaluating the applications, or starting to make the calls..) For those of you waiting... do not despair. This could drag out for a month or more as they will most likely be going through many more than 100 on that list. (Some will decline ND's offer.) She emphasized during the meeting that to get off that wait list, THEY WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU.
So... send in those great third quarter grades, awards, anything to enhance your application. Show your interest and why you are a great fit for that school.

Another bit of rather shocking news. She did indicate that if they are alerted that a my space or facebook has something less than flattering, they do investigate. (I don't know how they are alerted? Someone tells on them??)
And... how do they access the profiles on Facebook? Time to clean them up!

momtofour,
That is great news! Thank you so much for posting that information. My D has contacted ND several times and has let them know that she would accept if they offered her admission. She is trying to balance letting them know how much she wants to go there and trying not to over do it. I will let her know about her facebook but I have been on it and haven't seen anything objectionable.

momtofour's post just made my day! Chances are looking better than expected!

When we were at ND in mid April, Ms. Fisher stated that 1100 were offered places on the waitlist, so less than 50% accepted. Those on the waitlist this is good news, you're chances went up! Please post when you get the phone call. Good Luck.

We're looking forward to reading all of your posts when you hear the good news....!!

thanks for the good news! ahh I'm going to drive myself crazy for the next month lol.

OMGGGGGG!!! I cant believe it! My regional rep just called me like a half hour ago!! I got in!!! im so excited!!

wow! awesome news michigankid. I can't believe they already started calling people. Now I'm even more anxious.

Congrats michigankid, I'm super happy for you, I know how much you wanted to go! Good luck to everyone else :)

Michigan Kid... so happy for you! Go Irish! I hope this is the beginning of lots of great news for our waitlisters that are on this board.

For all you waitlisters, please give some consideration to booking hotels in the South Bend area for August 22-24th for move in and orientation. I don't want to build up false hope but it is going to be extremely difficult to get rooms if you are accepted. The Marriott site had some availability this morning. I know that the prices are high but keep checking back as they do fluctuate.

You will move in the morning of the 22nd so for those of you that are coming from a far distance, you may need the night of the 21st also.

All of those waiting are in my thoughts.. please continue to post the good news. For those that continue to wait, hang in there. My daughter didn't get in until June 5th!

The Regional Rep just called my house. Son isn't home...wouldn't tell us...can I assume???? The rep is going to call back later.

TymeflysBy, sounds like a great indication that your son is off the waitlist! In our case, the rep did call our house and leave a message asking for my daughter to call her back. Why else would the rep call? I think we will be congratulating him soon!

Congratulations michigankid and tymeflysby son.
Momtofour, we live a little over 2 hours from ND, will we need a reservation for the weekend?

YAY YAY YAY.....He is IN! and sooo excited. My prayers for everyone else!

thank you all and good luck to everyone else still waiting! Make sure you let them know how much you really want to go... I sent in a packet a few weeks ago with additional grades and recs.

Toshima, we live in Chicago and stayed for the weekend. I know some parents do just drop off the kids and head home. Friday morning you will be busy moving in you son/daughter. That is pretty much all you do on that day as the dorm will have scheduled activities for your child. Saturday we started out with a meeting with the rector in the chapel for all freshmen parents, followed by lunch in the dining halls. We then all went to the Joyce Center to hear lots of speeches and presentations. This was followed by small breakout sessions. Saturday night for the parents and siblings is on your own as the students are busy in activities. Sunday is a mass in the Joyce Center, followed by a box lunch. Finally, there is a pep rally.. marching band, cheerleaders, Coach Weis. Then...the dreaded good-bye. I heard that they are changing this year's orientation a bit but this was last years agenda. I would book a room and you can always cancel if you decide to head home. However, very few students are without their parents. The only ones I noticed were the international students.

My D got the call a couple of hours ago. Thanks to everyone for your kind words and encouragement. To the others that haven't heard, please keep positive. My thoughts are with you.

just got the call and I got in
so pumped right now

Did any of you guys who got off the wait list receive a thank you note for the additional letter you sent them? I got one and so did my counselor who sent them an additional rec. I thought it was a good sign, but I still haven't heard anything from admissions yet. Maybe they felt sorry for me for going to the effort to write one when they weren't going to accept me?
