Will ND go to the waitlist?

Anyone get an update on the likelihood ND will go to the waitlist? I know nothing's for sure until after the May 1st deadline but has anyone heard admissions hint at anything?

They said that left 170 spots that usually fill open this year, hoping that they will get to the waitlist. I haven’t heard anything negative from my admissions counselor so far, so I think that’s good! When do you think they will start calling?

My brother is a sophomore at ND and his girlfriend got waitlisted 3 years ago. She got her call on May 6th. So my best guess is that they’ll probably start calling a week or so after the May 1st deadline. When was the last time you talked to your councilor?

I saw him last week Tuesday

Anyone else? I’m sure with the deadline passing admissions will have a pretty good idea if they’ll go to the waitlist or not

I think they will allow the rest of this week for late arriving mail etc. and then if necessary, go to the waitlist early next week on Monday or Tuesday.

I think if you send by snail mail it has to be postmarked by May 1st

^^That’s what I thought. But it’s always possible the mail is postmarked on time but it arrives late. And next week is the earliest I expected to hear from them. When is the earliest time I should contact my councilor (or at least admissions) to get an update on the status of the waitlist? I know the later I wait the more they’ll have to tell me but I need to have at least an idea on where I stand. Also I’ve become very close to my councilor throughout this whole process so I’m sure it wouldn’t bother her regardless of when I asked.

I would say ask your counselor to call on monday the 7th? i imagine they’d have an idea of how the class has filled up by then.
i hope they have good news

[Why you should get off that wait list now - CBS News](http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505145_162-57414363/why-you-should-get-off-that-wait-list-now/)
I have heard this before and it is rather depressing. Why does ND need a waitlist of 1100 people? Wouldn’t it make more sense to waitlist a few hundred only? In “parent speak” it’s a “will see” or “maybe” which every kid knows is just a polite way of saying no

Putting 100’s of kids on a waitlist is unnecessary IMHO. However, the university does not know how many accepted applicants will send in a deposit, or the composition of the group. With restrictions on housing due to freshmen being required to live on campus and single-gender dorms, gender enters into the decision about which students to take from the waitlist (if any.) Also, the expressed areas of interest (potential majors) are considered. Reportedly, all seven of the applicants taken from the waitlist last year planned to major in Architecture.

Just talked to admissions. Aparently some people were granted extensions to make a decision so they won’t know about the waitlist until mid may. It was just the receptionist but she was pretty quick to tell me. What kind of circumstance would allow an extention?

I’ve heard of that…for financial aid…or if they were accepted to a school late they may have asked for an extension?
if i remember correctly from past CC posts, ND gets back relatively late…even for first round wait list accepts

Here’s a good link to some past waitlist stats at ND from 2010 and 2011
