^^haha…but you can have former without the latter at a grade deflated high school…I don’t get how Emory can prioritize one without the other either; if GPA is TRULY more important, they may as well just accept kids from HS’s with huge grade inflation where everyone in AP classes get A’s…doesn’t make alot of sense…sounds like a UMich strategy to me…

i got into emory and compared to you i wasn’t nearly as qualified. A&M and UT were my backups.

Sat - 1370/1600, 1980/2400
Gpa - 3.31 unweighted, 4.24 weighted
Course Schedule- 9 A.P.s/26 Classes total
Major- Biology

^^ do you have a hook, (urm, legacy, athlete)…If not, your essays may have been better? Were you top 10 percent? Did you do early decision? lol, was this supposed to make me feel better?..Good Job in getting in…

Do you guys think I should visit Emory…I don’t want to visit, because it will just make me like the school even more, and if I did visit, and then if I still don’t get in…=(…

I have never visited Emory…

^Emory said that visiting now won’t affect your waitlist decision in any way :(

i got wait listed at Emory and i don’t really understand how with my stats…its been a dream school for me for quite a while, and i really wanted to go but i never thought they’d ever even consider me…
i am an international applicant and here are my stats, and no i am not a URM:
SAT - 1850/2400…670M,630W,550CR
SAT 2’s - none
GPA - school doesn’t calculate GPA
Courses - A level Economics
A level World History
A level Sociology
A level Business Studies
AS level General
Grades - 2A’s 8B’s in O levels
2A’s,1B,1C in AS levels
Class Rank: top 35%
Major: Economics
Location: Pakistan
Essays: i thought it was very unique and different
Recommendations: Pretty good…
EC’s - Tons of them

i readily accepted a place on their wait list and would jump on an opportunity to go, but i’m still kind of stunned at how i match up against everyone else who applied to Emory with 3.8 unweighted GPA’s and top 3% class ranks…maybe my extra curricular activities make up for my academic performance, i have done graphic designing for various companies and parties or balls sponsored by them… still kind of shocked though :S

Colleges00701, nope i don’t have a hook. yeah i was in top 10% but barely. Although i did think my essays were really good. The one thing i’m good at is writing. but it wasn’t enough to keep me from getting waitlisted at johns hopkins.

colleges:

IMO, a visit would only be worth it if you could nab 15+ minutes with an Admission rep to make your case. (Emory doesn’t read by region, so it could be any of them.) Ask your GC to call and inquire about your app, its strengths and (ahem) ‘areas of opportunity,’ aka weaknesses. Update them with any new honors/awards. If you haven’t already, make sure to let them know that you WILL matriculate if taken of the WL. Keep an eye on cc and when the list starts to move, ask your GC to call on your behalf to reiterate your commitment to matriculate.

Good luck.

colleges

i really want to get in too. i saw on another thread that someone may have heard back. anyone know if anyone got accepted from the waitlist yet? i’m really stressed because i reeeeeeeallly want to go. is it me or is it wierd that not many people on writing on this thread. i didn’t originally because i didn’t want to get sucked into it, but being this stressed i couldn’t help but want to know what’s going on.

Visit the school? Oh my, it’ll be that much harder to be on the list. The school is off the charts. If a visit helps from an admissions standpoint, may be worth it, but a sincere note to the admissions office that you’d go if called would likely serve you better. It doesn’t strike me as the type of place that likes beggers so chin up if you visit.

How about the Oxford route? Tiny campus but academics are great nd you are an Emory student - just at the Ox for two years.

^^^No oxford, is not worth it…Most of the kids are from Georgia, I think it was 57 percent(Most of these kids live near Oxford, so for them its only a 30 min to an hour drive)…and during breaks they close down the residence halls, so I’d have to find another place to live for a couple of days…just a hassle…

I think I might go to my state school for a year then try to transfer to Rice/Georgetown/Cornell…thats if I don’t get off the waitlist…

^^I agree about the oxford kids. It seems like most students are from Georgia…nice kids but it isn’t exactly very appealing when half the kids can just drive and go home…I wouldn’t want to be the only one left on campus lol

dude, ur like a genius i dont get why u didnt get it…thats not fair
i know so many lower statistical scored ppl who got in to even higher schools such as cornell, duke, Upenn, and georgetown just bc they were black and spanish. i know this kid who got two C’s and he got into cornell with 50% financial aid.

life’s not fair
