anyone on the waiting list want to REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY want to go to Emory?..How can people not like this school…

^ just out of curiosity, what is your state school? Some state schools aren’t that bad.

^ Texas A&M =(…can’t compare Emory and A&M on the same level, it would be a disrespect to Emory lol…yah A&M sucks…

I still don’t understand why you didn’t get in.

Unless your essays, recs, and ECs were severely lacking.

If I don’t mistake you got waitlisted to a lot of schools =( this year has been crazy. Good luck, I hope you get in!

Unfortunately, the OP attends a grade-inflated Tx school. His 3.8 uw is top 15% which is probably what got him on the WL. (In contrast, a 3.8 uw at our local HS is top 5%.)

Ah. Well, Colleges, what did you get on your AP exams?

Obviously, if you got 2s and 3s, this is not good and proves grade inflation (I’m not trying to slam you or anything).

These are my Ap Test Scores

World History–10th Grade–4
U.S. History–11th Grade–4
Calculus A.B – 11th Grade --4 (I had a B- in this class for 1 semester because it was so hard, the next semester, I was able to bring it up to an B+)
English Language --11th Grade --3 (I didn’t pay attention in this class until 2 months before the A.P. test)

Subject Test Scores
U.S. History-750
Math 1- 730(Accidently fell asleep for 10 minutes during the test) lol, it was AN EARLY SATURDAY MORNING…lol, I have never wake up that early on a saturday…lol

By the way, I called some adcoms before I applied to Emory, and they all said Class Rank is not considered…My recs, were good, I was given a copy to read…I think it may have been my essays, they were probably very bad and boring…A lot of my friends that live in my area got in with higher gpas, higher class ranks, and 2350s on the sats(that might not have helped me)…

It doesn’t matter why I didn’t get in or why I was waitlisted, I JUST WANT TO GO TO EMORY…the more I read and research this school, the more I really want to attend it…I Regret not doing ED to Emory…oh well hopefully things turn out for the best, and I will be there next fall =-)…

Emory’s study abroad programs and resarch opportunities are amazing. I’d advise people that are going to attend Emory to take advantage of these opportunities…

I really hope you get in!!! =] I just really don’t understand why you didn’t get in still.

colleges:

even where rank is not an official criteria, it is still important under the holistic process, for placing the gpa in context of the high school; as in what does a 3.xx mean in this high school? Obviously, not all 3.xx’s are created equal. A 3xx from a prestigious NE prep school is just not the same as a 3.xx from slacker high.

Yes, but his AP and SATII scores aren’t bad at all. So it’s not like his GPA is super inflated.

According to Emory’s CDS, ~90% of matriculants are in the top 10% of the class (where class rank is officially reported) year after year. Adcoms are smart folks and they can infer rank from those schools that do not report it. It’s an important metric, particularly for high test scores, second (or lower) decile rank.

To hilsa:
Colleges, Emory included (if i am not mistaken), do not consider AP scores in their decision. They just look at the class. But the OP’s inflated GPA (3.8 w top 15%) could have been the reason why he was on the waiting list or maybe not. Let me stop rambling and scting like an admissions officer, lol :)

My school district is one of the wealthiest in Texas. Our average salaries are around 150,000-160,000…as a result, a LOT of the kids try and work hard because their parents push them with tutors and other things(test prep/study abroad)…lol I have 2 private tutors(i got rid of them, because its the end of my senior year)…I see what you mean by having grade inflation, because that means that 15 percent of my graduating class has a 4.1+ gpa…but the grades aren’t easy to get, everyone studies for EVERYTHING, some kids spend an hour and half studying for a QUIZ…-----Its really compeitive, but not cutthroat compeitive, more subtle compeition…

but I guess, If I want to go to a really good school like Emory, I have to stop making excuses about the compeition, and work harder…

^that’s the sort of attitude that’ll get you somewhere. If you don’t get in through the waitlist, then you can work hard at A&M and transfer to Emory.

It was probably your essays if anything else. I remember that you said it was about Hinduism and its influence on you. Emory probably gets a lot of Indian applicants who write on the same/similar topic. In other words, your essay might have been unoriginal (no offence).

^^^ none taken lol…I know Emory has a lot of indians…thanks, I hope I get off the waiting list too…

colleges, i hope you get into Emory, but don’t worry Texas has some good schools. I’m from Texas myself and if I don’t attend Emory, it’ll be UT for me. amazing school, great social scene, etc. Did you apply there?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I read somewhere that Emory does not take class rank into consideration.

Also, good luck to everyone on the waitlist… including myself. :D

^^according to Emory’s common data set, Class Rank is “Considered”, but Academic GPA is “Very Important”. Sorry, but can’t have the latter without the former, even if rank is inferred by adcoms. (Think about how adcoms interpret GPA on an applicant’s transcript…)
