Dear whr2go15 : Boston College is one of the most welcoming college communities that I have seen (and I have been part of many at this point). Your concern over your daughter’s “plus size” will be put aside once relationships start to form on campus. Only you and your family know whether or not this is a strength for your daughter, but it will be something that she will have to handle regardless of your chosen institution.
As indicated by jpm50, second year housing lotteries are a very different process where groups of students interested in living together act as a “block” to try and obtain four, six, or eight man accomodations. My two attendees at Boston College were both part of the Honors Program, but their “blocking” groups varied. (Older : Medeiros, Walsh, Gabelli, Edmonds, Younger : Medeiros, 66 Commonwealth, Gabelli, Rubenstein - note that neither did the “Mods” in senior year, but had many friends who did.)
Freshman year will come and go before you know it. The college encourages activities OUTSIDE of your dormroom, so please do not use the forced triple as a blocker in your thinking.
Massmom2015, our daughter got in off the wait list this past Wednesday. The only reason my wife and I have been back to this message board was to check in and see if your D got in. HaHa! We’ve both been reading your posts and praying for you. Can’t even tell ya how happy we are for you. See you at orientation!!!
@limbo333: Yeah I was referring to a post on 5/15 that someone else got off the waitlist, but collegecarla told me that BC posted that they made some more offers on 5/15 and on 5/13 they said that the first roind was complete and that they weren’t making any more offers…but I guess they changed their minds…so sorry for the confusion. Didn’t receive any good news from BC yet…still hopeful :-S
Hi quick question on orientation-we just signed up for a session only to find out the following day that my son will be receiving a reward that is the last day of orientation(and they strongly advise him to attend the ceremony) Does it end early the last day or is it a whole third day.Just wondering if we can make it back to LI in time, otherwise I have to change it. Also a question on parents weekend-do younger siblings typically attend? (have a 16 and 14 yr old) ,Thanks in advance
Dear momm719 : The third day runs until midday/early afternoon although the 2015 schedule is yet to be officially published. Given the 3.5 hour drive from Chestnut Hill back to Long Island (a route I can drive in my sleep … and often did), I would not expect that you would be able to do both events in one day unless the award is presented after 7:00pm.
Younger siblings can certainly attend Parents Weekend. The football game is typically a fun day for everyone!
BC is an extremely family-friendly college, so sibs are more than welcome. But beware, they may come home wearing a SuperFan shirt.
Orientation is awesome; the last day is the best part. I would reschedule orientation if you can. (Don’t worry about class registration – typical Frosh courses are blocked out and saved for each orientation time slot.)
@Massmom2015 The second round of offers were sent on Friday afternoon. We do not know if there will be another round of offers. In the event we clear the wait list, all students will receive an e-mail with this news. There is no specific timeline.
@Mom613 It looks like some of the Ivy’s are accepting off the waitlist as well, just received word that their might be some spots opening up…not sure if this will help my d or yours…seems like we’ve been waiting a long time. Best wishes to you!
