WAITLISTED APPLICANTS Class of 2019

@nikomalingo That’s great so you still have the option to commit to BC, Both of my d’s and I attended the April 23rd information secession and tour along with a teacher from Cathedral High School and we also spoke with John Mahoney and told him that she was placed on the waitlist as well. We told him how my d’s school was damaged in the June 2011 tornado and they had to relocate CHS to Wilbraham Ma. He was very personable and gracious, my daughter expressed great interest in BC… The campus was breathtaking and the students were poised and articulate. It was a pleasure and I know my d would be lucky to be offered a spot in the class of 2019.

Does anyone know if they are calling today to also let kids know they do not have a spot in the class of 2019? Or are they just doing acceptance calls?

Congrats.

Both are great schools, but very different. BC is more suburban, even tho technically ~half of the campus is inside the City limits of Boston. BU is urban. BC has full D1 sports and a lot of school spirit and pride. The Jesuit education is real, and is even awesome for those of other faiths or no faith.

Since you are on the BC board, I’d highly recommend that you give BC full consideration; it truly is a a wonderful educational experience. If you can swing the finances, you will not be disappointed if you choose Chestnut Hill for your next home.

Anyone get called yet today (Friday, May 8th)?

@limbo333 My d’s still waiting, no call yet…very hopeful it will happen soon! Good luck!

Mine too. Good luck to you too, Mom

@limbo333 @Massmom2015 do you think they are calling if you’re rejected or only if you’re accepted?

Only if accepted, pretty sure.

In reality, we’ve already been rejected :frowning:

Still waiting on Haverford, Bates and Hamilton.

@nikomalingo and @onward2745 Congratulations! Out of curiosity, do you have any special connection to BC or was your application flagged in any special way?

@onward2745 and @nikomalingo Congratulations to you both! Just curious - had you also expressed additional interest after accepting a spot on the waitlist via a letter of continued interest/additional achievement updates, etc.?

We have made waitlist offers to a very select number of students. Those official offers (including an acceptance letter) are communicated via e-mail; however, certain counselors elect to call students by preference. We anticipate continuing to offer a select number of students early next week and potentially into the following week. There will be no further offers today or over the weekend.

My guess is that BC’s yield this year was from very highly qualified applicants. The very students that are likely to be taken off wait lists at more competitive colleges. If some shifting has already begun, it would explain why the admissions committee has jumped on their waitlist so quickly, despite what they said earlier in the week. Apparently there’s already a need to backfill. Fingers crossed.

@maof4 no I have no connection to BC, just the normal application

@Yocco1 i told them i was interested so they’re preparing a FA package, and we’ll go from there I guess

@maof4 Nope no connection to BC.

@Yocco1 I only sent in a letter of continued interest

for anybody congratulating @nikomalingo it certainly wasnt his 26 ACT score or average EC’s that got him in, it was purely the color of his skin.

Normally a warning would be issued for a post like this (and there was) and it would be deleted. But I am going to leave it as both a lesson for others that posts like this are not OK and becaause too many subsequent posts would make no sense. - FC

@andydonald
wow …okay? I seriously don’t understand what people like you gain from posting these types of comments. I see them all over CC, and they’re really annoying, to be honest with you. Forums like these are meant for encouragement.

@andydonald Your comment is very disrespectful and uncalled for. nikomalingo probably worked just as hard as any accepted student at bc. Next time keep your opinions to yourself and don’t post them on a forum meant for encouragement.
