Waitlisted at Harvard and what happens next??

I applied RD to Harvard and got wait listed (GPA 3.1, 23 ACT URM and Human Activist profile (lots of CS and Humanities stuff)) and I never expected anything like this. I was literally going to commit to Miami University but then I got the news. Should I wait to see if I’ll get off the waitlist (even though I have a 2% chance) or should I just commit to Miami and rescind my acceptances

Seriously amazing with those stats! Congrats!

Accept the waitlist, then forget about it and fully commit to Miami. If you get off the list, great, otherwise, you have a respectable university to attend next year. If you get off the waitlist, it will be after you’ve committed to Miami (May 1). Congrats on getting so near to a Harvard acceptance; few people get as close as you.

Wow. This is either a troll or a miracle. They saw something in you, something that the admission officers have in their minds even when they sleep!

Commit to the admitted school you want. The idea of waiting to get off a waitlist is kinda crazy. If they were to notify you of admittance, you can always change. Since they put around a thousand people on the wait list, it is pointless to think you are getting off the list.

Like the others have said, it seems you don’t understand what even being on a waitlist means. It means you absolutely commit to Miami – fully intent on attending this fall. If a miracle of miracles happens and Harvard calls you in June or July, then you can re-evaluate. If you decide to accept the later offer (you’re not bound to), you turn back to Miami and withdraw, likely losing your deposit. But this happens all the time.

You let Harvard know you want to stay on the waitlist, send any additional info to bolster your app, and then forget about. The chances are abysmal, far, far lower than acceptance or getting on the waitlist to get an accept from them on it, so wouldn’t waste much of the gray cells and emotional juice on it.

Thank you to all that helped, I will accept the spot and commit to Miami University
