Waitlisted at Northwestern after rejected from HPME

Hello all,

As if the rejection from HPME wasn't bad enough, I got waitlisted at the undergraduate school (Weinberg) at Northwestern. I was wondering if there is anything you all think I should do to increase my chances of getting off the waitlist and getting accepted. I know that my sole reason for being waitlisted was being rejected from the HPME program after being interviewed. I previously e-mailed them with my intent to attend despite my rejection from HPME but I still have not received any word from the university. Thank you so much for any response in advance.

Actually, the reason you haven’t heard from it is probably because your HPME result is a non-factor for their college admission. The two seem to be independent of each other and what they look for don’t completely align with each other. There were cases where the candidates got the HPME interview but rejected by the undergrad school before.

Hey FrozenShardz, I’m excited that you really want to come to Northwestern. There’s really not much that you can do to get off the waitlist, and if you’ve already sent a waitlist update, you’ve done everything you can do. I don’t think you can say that the “sole reason for being waitlisted was being rejected from the HPME program” unless you’ve spoken with an admissions officer and he/she told you that.

@NUHPME‌ I emailed somebody who replied and seemed to agree with my reasoning. (She didn’t explicitly say it was the sole reason but it was implied).
If you don’t really want to help me out but just want to correct me about what I’ve typed up in a post, then I’d prefer you not comment at all. Thanks.

Then you probably also told the person you emailed that you still wanted to attend. Since that person got back to you regarding that being the reason you were not admitted, the person no doubt noted that you still wanted to attend. So it is all good …

FrozenShardz, I completely apologize and meant no insult. If the admission officer said that’s the reason, then I think I would still say you can’t do much more than express your continued interest with a waitlist update. I hope you get in
