I was waitlisted at Stanford, it's my top choice. I got into UCLA and Cal.

I'm putting my deposit in for either UCLA or Cal, but if I could go to Stanford I would be over the moon.

Is there anything I can do to increase my chances of getting off the waitlist??

My grades aren't great this semester, but I am trying to pull them up.. and I haven't done anything amazing recently >_<. Any advice on this is greatly appreciated!

At this point, there is really nothing you can do. Sending updates and having your GC call are potential options, but are not likely to get you off the waitlist (especially this year). UCLA and Cal are great options!

Also, many schools, including Stanford, often admits more than its actual projected freshmen class, because they know that not all admitted students will metriculate.

This has been the most competitive year for admission ever, and Stanford's overall admission rate was about 10%. Pretty much everyone that got in is wiping the sweat from their brows and is not about to give up their spot. Everyone that I have spoken to that got in (including myself) is going for sure, and they already have admitted about 250-300 students more than they actually have space for, anyway. The waitlist is a safety net in case anything weird happens with the yield, and it is VERY unlikely that any more than 10-15 will get in off of it this year out of about a very long list.
