Waitlisted at UCSD, chances at UCSB?

I was just waitlisted at UC San Diego and now feel I will not get in to UCSB, since more people want to go here.
UCSD Major: biochemistry
UCSB Major:biochemistry
Unweighted GPA: 3.9
SAT: 1170
IB Diploma: 35 including 6 in HL Chemistry, 6 in HL English 5 in HL Biology
EC: School prefect, lots of voluntary work

Please be honest with me.

Weak chances. More students want to go to UCSD.

You are not a California resident.

The UC’s are public universities paid for by California residents and the state is obligated to educate the residents first.
Your SAT is not competitive for OOS students.
You’ve chosen an impacted major. If you were to be admitted, you would pay hefty fees for 4 years.

I can afford the fees, my main issue is I feel I won’t get into UCSB for some reason. I also do the IB Diploma, and my scores are higher than their average so this will compensate my weak SAT scores

No way to predict but your SAT especially is low for UCSB. 50/50 chance but hopefully your EC’s and essays will give you a boost.
Best of luck.

@“aunt bea” are you saying I have a weak chance of getting accepted off the waitlist or getting into UCSB?

Yes, their preferences refer to in-state scores.

You are making really gigantic assumptions:

Nope, no one knows what the admissions committee will accept. Assuming that you know that your scores will compensate your SAT is really a jump.

@“aunt bea” alright, I am just assuming that was the case for UCSD as my SAT scores are below their 25th percentile but I was still waitlisted.

You did good. I was turned down by UCSD. I’m a Cali resident with unweighted 3.8 and 1250 SAT. Chem major. Waiting on UCSB, but not hopeful. Wait listed for Cal Poly SLO and SDSU. Accepted to CSULB. Good luck. I hope to stay in Cali.

Also had max volunteer hours at a Hospital. In the Health and Medical Accademy at my public HS. Work as a lifeguard with max hours in a job of leadership. I’m a female waterpolo player and swimmer for the HS. Recruited for water polo by 4 private Universities and I still don’t think I have a chance fo UCSB.

@intuart You had better grades and sat then me but i got into all the schools you listed except UCSB which waitlisted me
