Waitlisted at Vandy?

asked if all the spots were filled in the class…finally got some sort of answer
“Thank you for your question, Savannah. We are continuing to fill the class of 2019, and the waitlist is not yet closed. Thanks for bearing with us as we finalize the enrollment - we know it can be difficult to wait!”

^translation: the class is full and if we lose a few people during summer melt, maybe we’ll call.

Meanwhile: Come to Bama with the rest of us and be happy!
Roll tide!

Got it today. Our waitlist is still currently open, and we have continued to extend offers. I recognize this is a long and sometimes anxious process, and I greatly appreciate your patience and persistence throughout.

@Baba2015 sounds like more Jay Watson double speak to me.

Read his blog comments here:
http://admissions.vanderbilt.edu/vandybloggers/2015/05/2015-waitlist-update/

Notice that he says exactly enough to keep people interested without any real specifics, dodging the questions that he doesn’t want to answer.
Anyway, if Vanderbilt really were actively making offers, don’t you think someone on this thread would have said something in the last two weeks?

I speculate that the only offers made from here on will be a trickle of summer melt offers. The May days of “waves” of offers are likely over.
Still, I am interested in this thread because there are younger sibs in my household who may want to apply to Vanderbilt, but they will likely skip applying altogether after seeing how Vandy strung their older sib along and encouraged us to pander and beg to “show interest” as if we were desperate also-rans.

I would encourage everyone to stay patient but also be realistic. Vanderbilt is an amazing school. They could fill the school several times over with the highly qualified candidates that apply. That said, some of you will be disappointed. Every admissions office has the task of building a class. It may seem that pulling you off the waitlist is a simple process but it is an earnest endeavor. One of my daughter’s best friends is on the waitlist. He is an amazing student, has the same amazing test scores and GPA’s like the rest of you and is still waiting to hear about a spot. Last year one of her other best friends found out he was taken off the waitlist in July. It takes time. The idea that they are “stringing it out” intentionally is ludicrous. If they ask you if you are still interested, it’s because they know if you made the Vandy waitlist, you have other amazing options and opportunities.

Bookmarked this thread a while back.
Anyone heard anything?

So much for being a legacy applicant! :o3

“I have a bad feeling about this!”

Just got back from my orientation at the University of Texas at Austin. Its difficult to say what I would do if i did clear the Vandy waitlist. It’s been my dream school since I started the college process and I know I could be equally happy at either school. I’ve also fallen in love with the McCombs School of Business at UT and at Vanderbilt I would be taking Economics. Furthermore, I’ve already received bids from fraternities at UT and wouldn’t already be known about in Nashville the way I am in Austin. Then there’s money, 60K to attend Vandy vs. 15K for UT; my family CAN afford either, but at Vandy I would be a broke college kid. Regardless, I can’t seem to shake that “it just feels right” blend of excitement and nostalgia when I think about Vanderbilt. It’s tough. But I check the Vandy portal everyday. If i got off the waitlist, logically and pragmatically I should still go to Texas; but if i followed my heart and took on the debt, Vanderbilt might just be worth it.

@Pikidikitiki Current student here. At first I wasn’t too excited going to vandy because I thought it was too southern and fratty for my liking. While there are a few things I’d like to change, those are just trifles and I found my callings in the school: the best friends I could ask for, all the classes I could want, and all the ECs I could enjoy personally.

My point is, both UT and Vandy have everything that any college kid could ask for. Once you’ve found those kindred spirits, most likely you won’t even think about being anywhere else. With bids already offered, finding your peeps won’t be hard at all. It won’t be hard at either school, honestly. Wherever you end up going, it will be SO much better than whatever impression any orientation or college visit left on you. Good luck, and I hope wherever you end up will make you happy

pikidikitiki: as much as I totally “get” what it is like to love a favorite school and to truly like and appreciate Vandy, I would evaluate and weigh the merits of that UT undergrad business college heavily. I don’t feel that way about many undergrad business programs but UT’s is exceptional and you are exceptional so you are going to max it out. Stay put. Work 2-4 years and go to the best MBA program you can get into (they are costly but the top business schools do excellent job placement). Our eldest didn’t go to UVA’s excellent undergrad business college and went to Duke. yes he loved Duke but he got out with almost no business courses as he did not take the “clusters” offered in applied business. After working full time (in his 3rd job) he has to go get his MBA at night because he can’t afford to give up his good job that he likes a lot now. Don’t let Vandy’s reputation dazzle you now. Instead, Dazzle at UT Austin (I am serious)…and then get your MBA in your crushiest MBA program. (make sure not to skip calculus in undergrad school)…the GMAT favors those who took serious math courses–do not kid yourself…the GMAT takes a great deal of preparation…take the hard stuff…employers expect it, and always look for quantitative talent… and a strong MBA program doesn’t want you until you have worked. Vandy MBA should be on your list. Nashville rocks. Good luck.

@juvenis thanks for the valuable input and assurances from a student at Vanderbilt. No one knows firsthand what it’s like to be there better than its current students. And I really feel what you mean on the real experiences putting the preview experiences (orientation, tours, etc) to shame. I’m an extremely outgoing and social person so I can certainly see the merits behind that; i’ve got all the good times ahead!

@faline2 thanks for the insightful post as well. There’s really a lot of truth in the things you said. My eventual goal is to run a hedge fund, or a private equity firm, so I will be preparing very seriously for the GMAT and looking to attend a prestigious private school for an MBA. Truthfully, that’s the better place to have that standalone merit-worthy name brand degree anyway. And either way, im on a waitlist that comes with no guarantee of admission, so I know realistically where I’m standing. At this juncture, I’m stoked to be headed to Austin. I feel so lucky to live in a state with a flagship as great as UT. I’ll be studying business at one of the top public business schools and living in one of the fastest growing and most active cities in the U.S. Plus it beats the hell out of having to go to Texas A&M!

Just received an email from Vanderbilt:

It appears the 2015 class is officially formed and to those of us still in angst, the wait is over. To everyone who also made the waitlist, its an honor and a tribute to the amount of hard work and effort that we’ve all put in. I encourage everyone to keep their head up and find their niche at whichever phenomenal school they end up at; to explore who we are as people and further propel our lives in positive directions.

At this point I’m ready to be a Longhorn and I’m not looking back. I’ll be re-applying to Vandy for grad school, and who knows, maybe I’ll see some of you there. It’s impossible to know what the future holds; but success can be achieved anywhere by anyone willing to work for it.

@Pikidikitiki… Sorry to hear that. I am sure you will enjoy UT and do very well. My son was accepted at Vandy a while back. However before that, he was accepted at Rice and had already decided. For him its was between Rice and UT McCombs and He chose Rice. In my opinion to be honest if for him it was between Vandy and UT, He would have chosen UT over Vandy. But thats just my thoughts. Good luck!
