Starting this discussion exclusively for waitlist candidates
Ayy waitlist gang! I am trying to get off this thing really badly
It seems with number of applications on the rise and colleges worried about estimating their yield incorrectly they may be relying on the wait-list more this year than previous years. Anyone agree or disagree?
Anecdotally my child is now on FOUR wait-lists including Vanderbilt, with many decisions still to come. It seems unusual to be right on the borderline for more than one or two colleges so I suspect wait lists may be getting longer this year as well as dipped into more liberally. If so, there will be many rounds of musical chairs after May 1.
Hey just out of curiosity, what are the rules for waitlists? Can you hop on multiple waitlists? How binding are waitlists too?
Of course you can be on multiple wait-lists since there is no obligation either on the college to make an offer or on the candidate to accept admission if offered.
@Sminitrious Yep you can be on multiple waitlists at the same time and there is no obligation to enroll if you’re taken off
Bad thing about waitlist is if you choose to attend, you forfeit your deposit at the institution you enrolled in on may 1.
be sure to send a continued interest letter!
Dreaded waitlist. Wonder how many of us there are?

Waitlisted. Just glad I wasn’t rejected. Going to keep demonstrating my interest
“How many students are normally waitlisted? I know they fill like 10% of class through waitlists, but how large is the pool?”
Vandy does not post data in the CDS about how many kids are offered WL. But the number presumably is big, because (unlike some other schools) Vandy actively works and uses it WL to fill about 10% of its seats year in/year out. And because you’d expect there to be massive depletion of the WL as kids get admitted elsewhere, move on and drop off.
FWIW, I did see something that said that for the 2014 cycle, Vandy said it offered WL to something like 4,500 students. No idea how many kids accepted the WL spots and continued to be interested in Vandy. Eventually, Vandy made 210 admit offers to the WL that year.
Has anybody figured out what the real Regular Decision admission rate was? If EDI and EDII admitted roughly 500 each, leaving 500 for RD, what is that rate? Last year EDI and EDII filled 54% of class. Last year, they had 31,462 apps, admitted 3415, and enrolled 1607.
Last year’s cycle was 24% ED, 8.6% RD. 10.9% overall.
This year’s cycle was 20.5% ED, TBD RD.
If 46% of the class or 740 slots were filled out of over 25,000 applicants with a 50% yield rate wouldn’t that be 5.9%???
Waitlisted in Ohio. After tonight may be first choice.

Your 50% yield assumption on RD offers is way off.
For 2021 cycle, Vandy’s total overall yield was 47%. If yield on half the class is almost 100% (ED), that suggests the yield for the other half (RD) is 25-30%.
Waitlist (D) from MA
@stevestar888 soooooo many rulezzzzz oml. Thanks bud.
What proportion are waitlisted from Vanderbilt/ what is their waitlist acceptance rate?
