Waitlisted at WUSTL...do I even stand a chance anywhere else?

Haha well there’s quite a pool here. I thought of WashU as a backup (not really safety…) but also felt I had a good chance.

34 ACT (35 Superscore)
4.7GPA (Top 5%)
Good EC’s + CommonApp

But whatever. They can play all the little mind games they want. WashU doesn’t want me, and I’m not really wanting them anymore either.

Don’t despair! Wash U is known as an unpredictable school in terms of acceptance. I would not use this as a strong predictor of how things will go with other schools.

Accepted to UChicago but waitlisted at WUSTL? This is bogus.

Whatever, they didn’t offer any money.

I’m kind of sick of them now, like if I go on the waitlist and get accepted, there’s no way I want to go there anymore

even if acceptance after waitlist … they maynot give any money… Decision will be after may1 notification will be by jun30… will runout of scholarship money anyway… is it worth waiting?

Sigh. I feel the same here. I am soooo worried right now.

I feel the same way. Hmph.

I checked the decisions thread, and it seemed like some of the people with the highest stats were waitlisted. What’s going on?

My hope/wishful theory is that they waitlisted apps of students they assume will go on and get into ivies? & they select the apps of qualified students sometimes with high test scores who they don’t think have much of a chance at HYPSM etc etc? that would be ideal for me

I don’t think that you guys should panic if you feel like you’re qualified to get into WashU. I applied ED and was deferred. Even though I didn’t get what I wanted, I was still happy that I was still in the game. Then comes RD and I was rejected. However, while I was waiting for today, I have gotten into Tulane and NYU. I received a likely letter from Wellesley (I was expecting a ‘possible’ letter). So…I think that if you strongly feel that you deserve to get into WashU, but didn’t, I think things for the most part will work out for you. If you’re feeling iffy since the beginning, then you might have to worry. I say, have hope guys.

SAME HERE!!! I hope everything will go fine for other schools…

Yeah, I can’t decide whether to be happy or sad. I never thought I’d go there, but I wanted it as a backup. But, I already have USC, and I’m up for the full-tuition scholarship there, so hopefully everything will work out. Admissions decisions are so frustrating

katie ^ same here. i don’t know if i really wanted to go there, but i wanted it as a backup. i’m pretty sure that’s precisely why they wait-list a lot of qualified people. not many want to go to washU (hence, their low yield), so they wait-list a bunch

Hopefully you’re right. That would make me feel like I actually still have a chance at the Ivies

WashU is known to waitlist kids who they believe will likely get into more “highly ranked” schools (Ivies et al.) in an effort to keep their yield up.

So for those of you with stats above WashU’s ranges and a great application overall, have no fear; your waitlist at WashU might be a sign that good things are to come April 1 ;)

I had stats on the lower end of WashU’s range (32 ACT) and got waitlisted, but then again i didnt apply to HYPS I applied to Chicago, Rice, Georgetown, Vandy - that range … whats that mean for me?

I had a 2220 SAT, but only a 3.75 GPA (with all my B’s being 91%+ and my one C being an 84%)…I guess that means that I’m below Wash U’s range - yet still got waitlisted. Dunno how that happened lol.

Waitlisted as well. 32 ACT and 3.8 ish UW. I definitely had very strong ECs though. Oh well. I’m really hoping for Northwestern but WashU was a solid middle choice for me.

Some people are saying that Wash U is known for waitlisting people who they think will getting into Ivies to keep up their yield and look more selective. Personally, I believe that every school in the country wants to have the top students. And I don’t think any school, including WUSTL, would waitlist or reject someone because they (as some are making it sound) are too good for WUSTL and will go on to the Ivies instead.

I’m definitely in the same boat as everyone else here!

Dartmouth, UPenn, and Brown are my top top top choices. I didn’t necessarily apply to WashU as a SAFETY, but definitely I thought I would most likely be accepted when I originally applied…

Sorry if that sounds cocky ) :

I have a 2320 SAT, 3.9 UW GPA, top 3% of my class, hold a state leadership position for an organization, founded several organizations in my community, lots of community service… and I thought my hook was pretty compelling as well. I submitted the same essay for WashU as all the other schools I applied to… and I thought it was really awesome! But maybe I was wrong?

I am really very worried and feel as if I should have demonstrated more interest.
