I applied to about 6 places and I’m waiting to hear back only from NYU. I got into two places that were safety choices and I don’t know that I would want to attend. I was waitlisted from Rutgers (which I thought was a safety), George Washington, and University of Washington Seattle. I’m not sure about how many students were waitlisted but I’m willing to guess they waitlisted more this year because they’re not sure how this pandemic might pan out. Should I wait it out for these places and put a deposit somewhere else? Should I contact any of these Universities? Are my chances of actually being admitted over the summer slim?
Also, how will this affect grants given out?
Pretty sure I will get a rejection from NYU so I think I am left with these options.
This is not a good time to go to an expensive university anyway. 3 weeks ago, it would’ve been different, but right now the economy is crashing because of the pandemic, and it’s going to be uncertain for the foreseeable future. I would recommend going to a college in your home state, otherwise you could end-up having to transfer because a parent got laid off.
You will likely not hear back from your waitlisted schools until after May 1, so you will need to deposit elsewhere by the dates noted in your acceptance letters. This is typically May 1, but some schools have extended enrollment deposit deadlines so it is your responsibility to check that. Unless you have confirmed otherwise, assume that your deposit deadline is May 1.
Last year, the University of Washington took 2394 out of 3040 students off their waitlist. So those odds look reasonably good.
For the most recent year published, GW took 14 out of 2081 waitlisted students. So those odds are very long.
U of W started accepting OOS applicants off the waitlist last night. And your two accepted schools? You may not think they are great but some applicants do as they attend.
