Waitlisted Harvard University Class of 2022

I just called the admissions office to hear if they were only taking off 10 people from the waitlist and she said that I shouldn’t read into that because they haven’t decided if they are even going to use the waitlist at this point. Can someone else try to call the admissions office to hear what they say to you?

@GodisGood2018 Did you speak with the person who answered the phone or did you ask to speak with an admissions officer? When I called, I spoke to the young man who answered. He told me nothing! No information on how many were being accepted, no info on when the yield is being released. He did say that answers to the WL may go into June or July…or possibly tomorrow. I guess we have to try to be patient …

@MissyS I just talked to the person who answered the phone and assumed that was an admissions officer. I guess you are right. However, I feel like we should all hope for the best, but at the same time expect the worst.

Hey guys, I just got an email from an admissions officer about an interview. Are these common for waitlisted students? I wasn’t sure what to think of it since I’ve never really heard of waitlisted students being offered interviews. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

@narry345
Being asked for an interview this late is a very good sign. Please be relaxed and ready to talk about yourself. Good luck!

@ivybeenc
Hi and thank you!I actually did an interview with an alumni this January for the regular decision process. This would be a second. Does that make a difference?

@narry345
It means that the admissions committee has additional questions regarding your application but also that they are considering offering you admission. Don’t put too much pressure on this interview. They want to admit you. Give them reason to do so.

@ivybeenc
That sounds very reasonable. Thank you so much for answering my questions, last one! Would it be appropriate to send any letters of recs at this point? Too late?

@narry345
Not at this point. Late interviews are unusual but usually go in favor of the applicant getting admitted. Focus on the interview. Approach with friendly confidence. As I said, it’s a very good sign.

@narry345 did you send them a letter of continued interest already? Also, what did the email specifically read?

@Koreanjesus62
No I did not, I accepted the waitlist out of a what if, but I felt that I was a much weaker candidate and left it on the back burner to focus on Tufts and not get my hopes up too high. The email said that admissions had begun its deliberations on the waitlist, and they wanted to offer me an interview via Skype to learn more about the things I’ve been doing since I had last heard from them (Decisions in March).

@narry345 …good sign!! Good Luck!!! Update after your interview! Fingers crossed for you!

@narry345 good luck!

@narry345 Good Luck man!!! That is a good sign!

@narry345 Can you tell us a bit of your profile please? ie gender, race, test scores, ec…etc
I just wanna know what type of students are lacking in the student body this year…

Thanks everyone!

@reversedog
female
hispanic (DACA Student, did some interviews for the papers)
Georgia
33 ACT
GPA: 3.96 unweighted (school doesn’t do weighted GPA’s)
Rank: top five percent
EC: a couple of honor societies, several leadership positions in social justice clubs, marching band
I’ve done a lot of different things over the past four years buy had some pretty big limitation I explained to them in additional info which account for some weaknesses here and there
QuestBridge finalist, and some other awards and scholarships in there, first generation
I was at Harvard last summer taking a class, spent some considerable time there. Pretty compelling story

@narry345 wow that is quite an amazing accomplishment! Thank you and good luck on your interview!

Also, according to some reddit posts, a few people (at least 3) got off the waitlist.

I wouldn’t trust that though. It seems way too sketchy. And second, I think we should just trust Harvard’s word at face value. If they’re saying they just started, or they don’t know yet, then just be patient.
