Hi everyone! I never thought I'd need to join this community myself; someone or the other almost ALWAYS had a similar question on the site that had been resolved, but that was until tonight...
I am in a weird situation at the moment and REALLY need good advice.

Okay, so here's how it is. I applied to three colleges at CMU and have been put on the waitlist for ALL 3 :(
I bet this has to do with my SAT scores (*CR 610, Math 730, Writing 680) & (Math II 800, Physics 760).
Now, the CMU site says that I will get a "Waitlist reply slip" to which, if I reply back, I'd be "reconsidered".
Q1. I still haven't got the slip. Should I be worried?

It also said that I can send in some "extra material".

Q2. What qualifies as "extra material" at THIS stage? Do they want me to send them some recordings or something like that?

It also said something about qualifications.

Q3. I took the TOEFL on 24th January, '09 and I did quite well (114/120 on the iBT). I know they said SAT OR TOEFL, but should I send them the TOEFL scores anyway? Will it increase my chances in ANYWAY?

Carnegie has always been a dream-school for me. Ah, well. But here's how I look at it. Waitlisted>DIRECT REJECTION, so yeah :P

Sorry if this is too long guys; I beg you to bear with it.

*I am good at english; just not familiar with the SAT format >_<

I got waitlisted to my intended major, but accepted to all the other Engineerings ones. I faxed them the slip and will be forwarding them the “extra material”, basically another essay as to why CMU is for me, extra steps; anything that I had not previously included will be jammed in there (nicely of course). Your SAT scores are fine, I’ve been told I write quite well and yet I did poorly on the CR and WR on the SATs, yet aced the math portion. I was suprised I was accepted to all my schools, etc. with my SAT scores (regardless of the 780 Math)

Alright, I applied School Comp Sci and School Engineering (Electrical and Comp Engineering), and I just got a large packet saying “The Official FAT Envelope.” When you open it, the pamphlet inside says “The Official FAT Envelope,” and the inside cover says “Your In!” But the waitlist letter was hidden on the back. Or did the just mess something up on my application, or do they just like making people happy then shooting them down…

Does anyone know about wait list for MCS or HSS because online it says that I am waitlisted but I have been hearing people talking about getting accepted just not to their major?? Does that only happen with the engineering program? I still haven’t gotten anything in the mail either.

Extra essays, another recommendation, any awards you’ve received since sending in your application are all things you can send in to convince CMU that you are right for them. My recollection is that in years past CMU accepts a fair number off the waitlist.
