How many students were waitlisted this year? And when will they inform us of the admitted waitlisted students?

i don't know, but i want to know too!!! i think we're going to get something in the mail which will give us more details. the other schools i was waitlisted to said no later than june 15, but most likely late may/early june.

Between 500-800 students were waitlist last year.

13 were eventually admitted. This is lower than in most previous years, though.

You will hear at the latest July 1.

wow those odds are worse than admission's

july 1st? oh my god, i don't know if i can make it that long ahhh. but hey, percentage wise, not many people make the waiting list either... you never know.

You must keep in mind that the waitlist is used to fill specific spots in the class. If a smaller-than-expected number of engineering students matriculate, they'll take a few engineering majors from the waitlist. If not enough musicians do so, then they'll take a couple of trombonists. And so on. So it is not necessarily the top 13 applicants but the 13 applicants the admissions committee feels are the best to round out the class.

Would they use the waitlist to fill in for other areas? In my case, if too few students matriculate from MT, would they consider taking me off the waitlist in the name of geographic diversity. I sure hope that's the case because my major was psychology and I would expect that major to be pretty full.

They might very well do that.

You never know.

Is there any way to find out the names and addresses of all admits from MT so they can be "eliminated"

jk

Can we send extra material to, you know, increase our chances...CONVINCE THEM that we NEED Stanford, that we're worthy?!

You can and should do that--it can't hurt.

But make sure the "extra material" is good--something very impressive they haven't seen in your app.

God...Is it possible that I'm on the waitlist because the Teacher Recommendation form was misplaced!? Only the letter of recommendation reached Stanford, the form was not in the envelope I mailed them. I learnt that much later! -_-

Easy now cjantony, i'm from MT too, and I was waitlisted

But I'll be competing at the National FFA convention next fall, maybe that'll help (found out after admission decision)

ok bmanbs2,

you're off "the list"

for now....

Stanford had swings in the entering class from 1749 students in fall 1999 to 1598 students in fall 2000.
Since Fall 2002 they have been using the wait list more and kept the class size about 1640 students.

i am crossing fingers for all you waitlisters that this will be a repeat of 2003....good luck guys. i cant imagine the angst of waiting yet...again
