Wikipedia isn't always reliable; sources are anonymous and there is no reference to where that information came from, so it should be taken with a grain of salt, (or rice? ;) ) Anyway, there will be some "summer melt" when some students already enrolled at Rice are offered spots at schools where they are waitlisted, and a few may change their minds over the summer.
Historically, Rice's waitlist has been all over the place. quote In 2006, we offered admission to 110 students on the waiting list; in 2005, the number was 47.

It's a small school, and it has to rely on a waitlist to make sure it doesn't overenroll. I hope they have some places left for those of you on the waitlist. Don't give up hope yet, but do celebrate the schools that you are currently committed to attend. :)

"Undergraduate admissions is highly selective [1] with only 24.7% [2]of its applicants for the Class of 2011 being offered a place. Of the 727 who enrolled, 76% were in their high school's top 5% with 19% of the total class being valedictorians."

I haven't heard anything.. And no1 else I know on the waitlist has heard anything. From the way Rice made it sound in the letter, they won't admit anyone until June. I dunno though.. I know of some people who were admitted off the waitlist last May around this time. Perhaps there really are only 3 waitlist positions available..

Yeah, that's pretty ridiculous. I'm kind of shocked - just the other day I sent in my update (a pretty significant update at that). Oh well, on to UT.

In April, we requested permission to place your name on the waiting list as an alternate for Rice's class of 2011. Since May 1, four students have been offered admission from the waiting list, and the class is now full.

Past experience has shown that there will be a limited number of openings in June. To update us on your current desire to remain on the waiting list or withdraw from it, please reply online by June 1, 2007.

FREAKING $#!& all i wanted was to get into rice...

yeah i got the same letter, obviously, and it was disappointing, but try to just focus on the school to which you sent your deposit...i'm already less interested in rice just because of how long the waiting list process is taking and the nice things i've been hearing about my other school :) good luck!

To those who were on the waitlist: best of luck at your other schools; I'm sure you'll have a great time and get a great education wherever you end up.

Wow.. not admitted early decision.. not admitted regular decision.. not admitted from waitlist 1.. lol, do I even want to sign up for waitlist 2? It seems like they just keep putting off my application.. I'd rather be flat out denied than wait around like this all the time.. How many of you have already signed up fro the second waitlist?
