<p>In the recent few years there is a huge increase in high school students and in the number of colleges that each student applies to. Waitlist statistics will likely not be accurate since each college would take different strategies to cope with the increasing number of applications. And, even discounting these factors, there are large fluctuations in different years for the number of waitlisted students eventually admitted (see the statistics for Emory above).</p>
