Waitlisted...

So i got waitlisted... can anyone tell me any statistics or hopes for waitlist candidates? How many do they waitlist (i just got waitlisted by Wash U St Louis and it seems that they waitlisted almost everyone who wasnt accepted to help their matriculation rates...)

i got waitlisted too. im hoping its somewhat of an accomplishment

waitlisted ;(

waitlisted too

dont worry, i got waitlisted from wustl too.... this really sucks 0/2... :(

waitlisted but i had given up on unc after being deferred a couple months back.

ahhh waitlisted too!! do u guys think that you are going to accept your spots? im not sure if i am yet...

also..waitlisted people...what were your stats?
mine are briefly:
OOS, female
SAT: 1190/1600, 1840/2400
Rank: 18/500
Captain of 2 sports, NHS, SHS

how many people are waitlisted/rejected/accepted percentage wise?

there is not much chance at all that you will get on through the waitlist... there's not much point in even going on the waitlist because a couple years back only 1 person from around 900 waitlisted got accepted. don't even bother

Actually, if you look at last year's threads, quite a few people from CC got in off the waitlist.

It changes year to year. And I would NEVER not do something because the chances are slim. Not ever. All of you, good luck! And if UNC doesn't work out, I hope that you all find a school that you're truly in love with and forget that UNC ever existed.

good message from cloying! i've been told that the "untold" truth about waitlists in general, is that the few who get in from them are not necessarily the strongest candidates, but will add to what the school NEEDS demographically, to make their own reported demographics look better,ie, males favored over females, different ethnic/racial groups, distant geographical areas from the school, etc. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!!

1260/1600, 1850/2400
VERY Underrepresented County
Captain of #7 Ranked Soccer Team, President of NHS, etc.
200+ Community Service Hours
World Pverty Awareness Projects in Philippines
3.8 unweighted
4.4 weighted

2/200

I was deferred and the highest SAT score that anyone has scored to get into Carolina from my school since it opended (6 years ago) was a 1240

I will take NC State and be happy about it

From the numbers I've seen, more people get in off waitlists from WUSTL than UNC but I think that has more to do with the number of people who apply to WUSTL just for prestige and then don't go because of the large tuition costs. The percentage of people who enroll at UNC that were accepted is 25% more than at WUSTL.

it looks like all the waitlistees have great stats except for sat's. perhaps thats what kept you from acceptance?

My in-state friend got accepted off the waitlist last summer in like July. She had decided on State and everything, but called and told them she was a Tarheel instead. :) Y'all still should have hope (but naturally make other plans in case)!

OOS, MALE, ASIAN

3.5 uw, 3.8 w, hardest classes possible

1450/2130 SAT

great essays
great recs
Ecs were by far strongest part of app - vp, editor, founder of business, went to 3rd world country to teach english, 2 sport varsity, awards and such

my gpa kept me out

For those of you who got waitlisted but still have good stats... remember essays are huge. Even if you wrote a grammatically perfect essay, that was concise, clear, and to the point, it won't even necesarily be enough.

Quoting the admissions officer here: "You could have a grammatically perfect essay - any English teacher would be proud of you. But it has to tell us about you, and if it's perfect, but boring, it's like a 2x4"

OOS, Female, Asian

SATs: 800/720/690 (1520/2210)

GPA: 4.1w, 3.5 uw (? not sure)

ok everything else--I think it was the gpa. Is there any disadvantage to accepting the waitlist?
