Waitlisted U Mich class of 2021

@c011e9e thanks!

should we send in 3rd quarter grades or another letter of intrest

My admission counselor said they’re looking to offer some students on waitlist gaurenteed transfer for their sophomore year

-if you accepted the waitlist and know you will attend 100% if you get off it in june, yes send 3rd quarter/final senior year grades! it will help im pretty sure!!

  • if you got waitlisted, and even are slightly hesitant on going to U Mich.. don't accept it! Let those people who really really really want to & know for sure to go have a higher chance of getting off the list!!

I accepted the spot because I am still head over heels for UMich. I know that I won’t get off the waitlist, but I just still wanted that Cinderella chance/hope. There are too many people with even better scores and GPA than mine. I doubt that the admissions will reread all the applicants. I would call bullsh*t on that right now. They probably gave our essays a rating or a score when they went through the first time before our decision. Now it is probably a numbers game in which I am more than likely uncompetitive. My essays were really my saving factor for my average (literally average - 3.8 GPA, 31 ACT, and 1430 SAT) stats.

As I have said this whole process, this sucks but life goes on. Time to donate my life worth’s UMich clothes to some great cause and buy some State clothes.

@UofMichigan1999 those stats are great. you should have got in tbh. again - they just don’t have enough spots. keep in mind stats alone aren’t the deciding factor… essays, ECs, and overall how well-rounded of a person you are. they want a diverse incoming class who succeed in all aspects, not just academics, so I don’t think they waitlisted you based on your stats themselves, just not enough space, they could have denied you, they chose not to

also, question - those that got waitlisted (& were EA Deferred) did you send first semester senior year grades + LOCI ? those may have affected the decision as well

@uofmfan I did submit semester grades and LOCI (LOCI like a week and a half before decisions)

Ugh I’m so torn as to whether or not I should accept the WL. On one hand, from everything ik about UMich it seems like such a fantastic school, and on paper LSA seems like my type of thing (liberal arts + pre-professional), but on the other hand I have a cheaper safety (Rutgers) and OOS tuition for UMich is extreme. Plus results coming out by the end of June is a really long time to wait after being deferred EA–and what if I do get accepted off the WL (doubtful but this is hypothetical) and I end up not liking it there? The uncertainty of it all is driving me kinda crazy.

Apologies for the semi-panicky-ness of that :stuck_out_tongue:

Zenith99 - if you go on the waitlist and are later offered a spot at Michigan, you do not have to take it. So accepting a spot on the waitlist is not a binding commitment. But, do look at the affordability of Michigan closely because there’s not much point in hanging onto hope if you cannot afford to attend.

Do you guys think that the wait list acceptance rate will be increased this year due to the fact they were being careful with admissions this year due to the fact they over admitted last year and are just making sure it doesn’t happen again?

A ton of really qualified kids from my school got waitlisted this year. Only one student was accepted RD. I’m hoping Michigan accepts more waitlisted students than it has in previous years.

Anyone get a different response to an email post waitlist decision?

"Thank you for your continued interest in the University of Michigan. I can appreciate your disappointment upon learning that you were waitlisted at U-M. Michigan is consistently ranked as one of the top universities in the world and, as such, admission is extremely competitive. In fact, this year we received more than 58,000 applications.

We invited you to be on our waitlist because we strongly believe you have the capability to be a successful student at the University of Michigan if space were available. Once we get a clear picture of how many admitted students pay their enrollment deposits by the May 1st deadline we will know if we are able to extend admission to any of our waitlisted applicants.

Since we do not typically admit students from the waitlist until late May, I encourage you to move forward with enrollment plans at another college or University. If you have any additional questions about the waitlist please visit this website.

Sincerely,"

Guys - I just declined my admission. Hope one of you get the spot I cleared. Good luck.

^^ that’s really nice of you to say :slight_smile: Thank you

@c011e9e
That’s weird because my email read,
"We have completed a final individualized and comprehensive review of your University of Michigan application and all supporting documents. While you have many impressive qualities, we regret to inform you that we are not able to offer you a place in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts for Fall 2017. Our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process.

Because college is an important next step, we encourage you to make enrollment plans at another college or university. Many applicants who are not admitted to the University of Michigan as freshmen continue their interest in U-M and enter as transfer students. You may wish to consider applying after successfully completing two years of study at another college or university. Our website contains more information about transfer guidelines at admissions.umich.edu/apply/transfer-students.

Meanwhile, we occasionally admit a small number of applicants before the end of June from our waitlist. Please notify us of your intentions to accept or decline this waitlist offer before May 1, 2017. Go to Wolverine Access (https://wolverineaccess.umich.edu)—New & Prospective Student Business—Application Status. If you choose to accept the waitlist option, you must confirm on two separate pages. Visit our website at https://umich.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2081 for more information on the waitlist.

Thank you for your interest in the University of Michigan. You have our best wishes for success in your pursuit of higher education.

Sincerely,"

And I accepted my spot on the waitlist because I still really would like to have Michigan as an option. I am curious as to why our emails are different as yours seems more optimistic and mine is basically a rejection. Weird.

This was my response:
"Hi Jake,

Thank you for your continued interest in the University of Michigan. I can appreciate your disappointment upon learning that you were waitlisted at U of M. Please note that you must officially accept our waitlist offer in order to be placed on the waitlist.

Since we do not typically admit students from the waitlist until late May, we encourage you to move forward with enrollment plans at another college or University. If you have any additional questions about the waitlist please visit this website.

Please feel free to let me know if you do have any additional questions going forward.

do we HAVE to send our senior year grades?
I applied RD and never sent my first semester grades because they’re bad and I didn’t need to send them. My current grades are still bad and will definitely get me rejected. Do we need to send them if we were waitlisted??

@quiteabeaan Your grades can’t be that bad. As long as you don’t have more than one C or worse, you should be fine.

What I don’t get is why do they put so many people on the waitlist? Historically, they only take in about 90ish people from the list. Last year being the exception because they only took 36 people… About a third of people offered a spot on the wait list accept it. They should only offer like 1000 spots, and then have to choose from like 350 people for how many spots there are. There is no point in offering like 11,000 people a spot. It makes their life so much harder.
