Waitlisted? What's up with their admissions?

So a group of friends and I have applied since Decemberish and today both of them got a letter.

One was rejected (3.4 GPA with 1400ish SAT) and the other was waitlisted(3.8 GPA with 1500ish SAT). They both took about 4 AP classes. Their myuw status never changed from "recieved" to "reviewed." A couple of my friends got in with a 3.6 GPA and1400 SAT last week.

I looked at my online status and my application is still on "recieved." I haven't gotten a letter either... Now I'm freaking out because I know a few friends that got accepted in April and a group that's now getting waitlisted in the last week of march. Why exactly do they waitlist people and what does it mean? Why is this admission process so confusing?

In case anyone wants to know to get a better idea on what to tell me... I have a 3.53 UW GPA with 6 AP classes and 4 Honors classes. Top 13% of class. 1700 SAT. Amazing ECs. Wrote my personal statement about overcoming my brain infection last year and all my AP/Honors english teachers thought it was amazing. >__<

Thank you for anyone who helps me understand what's going on! Hahah.

probly accepted or waitlisted.

yeah same thing here… i applied in early november and my status is still “we have received all materials…” I’m in California, and all the people I know that applied there already got in/didn’t get in. Whats the dealio?

Major: Mechanical Engineering
SAT I: 1750
GPA UW: 3.5
GPA W: 3.65

4 AP’s 2 Honors

Lots of ECs and great essays. 4 years XC and Track… just praying now…

I think you have to very solid from here on out to get accepted. They’ve probably filled 3/4s of their spots already.
