Am I happy to those who got in, but people with sub 1800’s with nothing stellar got in…

@gladiatorbird, admitted with regents right? that really doesn’t undermine Shirafune’s argument but, oh well, hopefully we still have a chance at the higher end UC’s, after all some people say that UCI honors is comparable to a Ucla admission

No Regents. And we didn’t qualify for any FA except for the unsubsidized Stafford loan.
I assume the packet we got in the mail would have included Regents or other scholarship info. Looks like a straight admit for son–which we are very happy and relieved about, given what I am seeing from you superb students on this waitlist. :(

I have friends with 2300+ SATs and 4+ weighted GPAs get waitlisted.
They were east asian, middle to upper middle class kids.

^^^Well, that lends credence to Shirafune’s hypothesis. Son is middle-to-upper middle class, white male applicant. I don’t know if it served as a ‘hook’ for our high-stat son, but dad battled bone cancer throughout son’s early childhood. This was mentioned only very peripherally in his personal essay–so briefly that adcoms wouldn’t even have noticed unless reading for meaning (not scanning).
Who knows. I am happy for son, but have great difficulty accepting that you amazing kids were wait-listed.

Wait-listed, hopes got up when I was redirected to the Link Family page a couple times…
32 ACT, forget UC GPA but ELC, National Merit, unique EC’s (ping pong championships and self study 3 languages)
I played up my military kid status ALOT too, I thought they would appreciate that…
UCSD was the only UC I applied too…

Waitlisted.

Unweighed GPA: 3.63
UC Weighted: 4.1
ACT: 30

Essays: many people think its amazing
EC: Volunteer (200+ hours), Intern, Varsity Tennis. Team captain

Major: Mech E

i also got waitlisted for UCD, rejected from SLO,

what are my chances at UCI, UCLA, UCB, UCSB, USC.

so sad why cant you just accept me, plus what are my chances

Lots of kids came off the waitlist last year. Hang in there guys!

I got waitlisted to ucsd last year with similar stats as most of you (around 2200 SAT 4+ gpa), and I got in a few weeks later(they said they made a mistake, but i’m sure it was because they had under enrollment). A ton of people got in off the waitlist last year so make sure to fill out the waitlist thing. If it helps, I got rejected from UCLA and UCB after they both send me a supplemental questionnaire. I felt pretty upset last year too and I know how you guys feel, but fill out the waitlist thing because it can’t hurt

@hbp555, thanks for the support! though I must admit waiting a few weeks wondering if there might have been a mistake in being waitlisted doesn’t really put my mind to rest lol

Yeah bitter…

Don’t remember my UC gpa, but unweighted is 3.88, weighted 4.45 sat 2090 Act 31
I’m at an IB school, taking all IB classes now.
Tons of community service, volunteer at a hospital, president of a club for 2 years, national honor society, varsity swim, multiple artistic awards…
My essays were stellar…
Only school I applied as undeclared, since they don’t have an undergrad nursing program, so I probably wouldn’t have gone anyways.

Waitlisted
4.3ish UC GPA
2200 SAT, 33 ACT
Pretty good essays, amazing EC’s with tons of leadership
Asian upper-middle class female from competitive CA public school
Don’t remember if I applied for a competitive major or not

Very disappointed. I can’t understand why I got wl’d :(

I would like to revise my previous hypothesis on being waitlisted. As I said before, I believe they need to reach a set quota on attending students and the only way to do that is to admit as many “fit” students as they can. Granted, a university cannot admit only “fit” students. Looking at the other applicants that were accepted without regents scholarship, I would like to suggest a normal bell curve for their admissions process; admitting some stellar candidates, albeit not stellar enough for regents, allows the university to maintain a good diversity as well as snag some amazing students. I would also consider a curve skewed right.

Accepted and reserved spot for Trition Day
SAT: 1920
GPA: 3.99
EC’s: a lot

Hook? hispanic?

and my essays must’ve gotten me in

Stop, Alex. This isn’t nice. :[

Wow, I am absolutely astounded at the stats of some of you who got on the waitlist. Many of you are very qualified for UCSD and should never have been waitlisted. Some of your stats are even higher than mine and I got the Regents Scholarship. Good luck to all of you, really. I hope many of you who wanted to attend UCSD are able to lift yourselves off of the waitlist.

I was pretty disappointed. Hope this doesn’t mean we have a lower chance of getting into UCLA or Berkeley.

Rejected.
UC GPA: 4.1
ACT: 32

Good EC’s and personal statements.

why.

I got rejected by UCSD too. Lol. What now…
SAT 2070
SAT 2 Physics 800 Math II 800
