Waitlisted, mostly because of legacy. I'm definitely not qualified for Columbia...I felt pretty bad about it because the top 2 students at my school didn't get in (both have like 4.2 UW and 2350 SAT.)

What is everyone specifically including in their waitlist "statement"? What awards/updates in particular?

is it okay if we send in the waitlist statement in a week or two? i need some time to write something that truly shows my accomplishments/my desire to attend columbia. i already sent back the form that gets me a spot on the waitlist.

yeah, totally

that's perfectly fine (the waitlist committees don't even convene until after 5/1 --> they need to first see how many spots they need to fill first). I encourage you to give your letter some thought.

It's nice to know that other people are feeling what I am feeling right now -and we should be damn proud of being on the WL!! I actually visited Columbia today- and by mistake I ended up lost in the heart of Harlem trying to get there. Yea, it was a pretty scary experiance. So I'm not too sure about staying on the WL- dont get me wrong, Columbia is really beautiful- but it might be too close to Harlem for my comfort- and my bad sense of direction!! haha

Where did everyone else get in? Did you decide where you'll go? I'm having a difficult time choosing b/t Cornell, BC HNRS prog, William and Mary, and a full ride at American. Any ideas??

Cornell--its ivy league

I was also waitlisted...but I don't feel bad. I was expecting to be flat-out rejected, so when I got the email I was like...hey, they don't hate me! I'm deferring for a year, so I'm not sure if I could even take a spot if I were accepted off the waitlist.

ivy league? what a crap reason to choose cornell from that list.

also, columbia is IN harlem. it's not "close to" harlem.

oohshinyobject, can you not defer if accepted off the waitlist?

How does it actually work, if you stay on the waitlist, but accept an offer from another school? In Columbia's letter, it states that one should accept offers, but I figured that if you accept somewhere you can't just say I'm not coming because Columbia took me, right?

no, Columbia is definitely not "IN" harlem. students don't even have to go anywhere near harlem if they don't want to.

You guys who are currently at Columbia. How good was the financial aid for you?

My financial aid offer was generous and on par with the other schools to which I was accepted (with their offers of merit aid included).

Hm, I'm on the waitlist, but I got into Duke.

Duke vs. Columbia (if I ever get off the waitlist, it's a long shot I know).

I REALLY REALLY want to go to Columbia still. I guess I'll send that form back, and in a little bit, i'll write my one page supplementary statement thing.

Don't give up on Columbia. My friend was waitlisted last year, she visited the school, gave them calls and wrote her letter. Just proved to them how much she was interested in school.
In the end of may, the FedEx mail came.

I am going to go all out, I want this so bad! :(. If we choose to visit, how would they know that I am a waitlisted student? Should I visit before writing my letter? GAH.

Sigh.... the waitlist blues.

We wait for months just wanting an answer... but then it's wait more.

Metaphorically speaking it's as if they're holding a carrot infront of a donkey. And there it just seems like there is nothing to do to get that carrot. Except write another essay. sigh

okay i just compared myself to a donkey. This college admissions stuff deffently is messing with my mind

cool2bars: I'm pretty sure I can't defer if I'm accepted off the waitlist. But the chance I'd actually get in off the waitlist is slim to none.

i am waitlisted as well, do you know how many people were admitted last year from the waitlist???

Do you know that for a fact oohshinyobject?
