Hey guys, I just got my letter and I got waitlisted. NYU is definitely my top choice and I have no other options at the moment that are really comparable. I mean, I got into UMD Honors program, George Washington University, and McGill University, but to be honest I don't like any of them or they're way to expensive (GW, I mean). I know my counselor very well, and while my parents aren't legacies, (and i know this shouldn't matter) my grandfather is (and... has a lot to offer and wants me to go there). Does anyone know if it would really be of any help to write letters, have my counselor call, mention the legacy, etc etc. ?

I've also been waitlisted. I'm not sure if it would help if i were to supplement my application. Let me know if you hear of anything and ill do the same...good luck!

I hate to break it to you, but NYU will be just as expensive, if not more.

Did you guys receive a UDay invite? I just wanted to knoe if waitlisted applicants got the invite also.

yeah, i was really kinda surprised when i got the waitlist letter, like, honestly it doesnt make too much sense to me.. so last year 60/1600+ were accepted? chances seem bleak.. :(

yangc425, did you get the uday invite?

"I hate to break it to you, but NYU will be just as expensive, if not more."

Im thinking the same thing...nyu is MORE expensive than gw...lol

carnegie mellon vs. nyu? anyone?

Mashaaa, i didnt get the invite.

I also got waitlisted, and I'm just really depressed right now. I really just don't understand what went wrong. I have a 2210 and a 92UW GPA, and I really thought that would be enough. What happened? I was waitlisted (i.e not rejected) at Columbia but I can't get into NYU?

cool2bars what is your EFC?

i have friends with 2250's that got either waitlisted or rejected. NYU had a very competetive pool this year.

To those who were saying NYU would be more expensive than GW, I'm pretty sure your wrong. For me, GW totals up to about 55k a year.

ryan2288, I'm not sure what you mean, but we didn't apply for financial aid, as in we're paying full tuition.

Ah, sometimes if you have a low efc that may be a reason you were waitlisted. Schools don't like meeting people that are need based. But I guess that isn't an issue here.

great .

what do you guys think? carnegie mellon or nyu for physics and in general?

do you want to be in a right in the middle of a huge city with no campus or in a residential area of a city with more of a traditional campus feel yet close to many things to do because it is still a city (free bus pass = :-D)? Go visit both and see which one is better for you. (I'm picking CMU and thinking that NYU would be cool for grad school).

i remember getting one, but dismissing it as garbage & throwing it out..
