Waitlisted

I just heard back from Pitt and was notified that I was waitlisted for 2017 Fall Term but guaranteed admission for 2018 Spring Term, if I choose to accept.
I applied to the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences back in November; they later requested for my mid-year senior grades.
In my mid-year grades, I had all A’s in my classes: AP Economics, AP Spanish, Honors Physics, Calculus, English, and CHS Intro to Stats and Probability. I am also taking Honors American Foreign Policy second semester.
I had a 3.22 weighted GPA (4.0 scale) when I first applied and a 1,380 SAT (700 Math, 680 Reading & Writing). My weighted GPA was increased to a 3.37 with the mid-year grades.

Pitt is my number one choice. My questions are: what are the chances of getting into Fall 2017? Has anyone had any experience with being waitlisted? If I were to not get into Fall but into Spring, would I be able to take classes at a community college and transfer credits over?
Also, would retaking the SATs make it any easier for me to get into Fall 2017? I got a 1,470 in an SAT practice test before so I think I could improve my score a little bit.

Get super high grades this semester, then send a really well-written letter describing why Pitt, why you.

@fy2795 Same here. I called the office and was told you can take classes at a CC and transfer the credits. The only thing you can’t do is take classes at any of the Pitt branch campuses. They also said I probably wouldn’t know before May 1st no matter how many students declined before then. Paying the deposit doesn’t put you ahead of the people on the waitlist who didn’t pay it - they said everyone is on the same list and there is no order. So, not sure how they decide who gets a spot for the fall!

Here is a link to the Common Data Set which gives you all the stats from last year - the number enrolled varies a lot from year to year from what I can see looking back a few years. http://pre.ir.pitt.edu/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/PGH-CDS_2016-2017.pdf

Definitely write them a letter and ask if you can send third quarter grades - they want to know that Pitt is your first choice. Good luck!

@fy2795 @rmjk55 If you want to live on campus, find out if you need to pay enrollment deposit/housing deposit by May 1 to have guaranteed on campus housing for three years. Ask if you can be refunded the deposits if you don’t get accepted off the waitlist.

Also make sure that taking CC classes doesn’t
