waitlisted

Does Andover still need waitlisted students? Or are they full and closed their doors already.

IDK I got a response in an email from them yesterday about sending financial aid info for this year. :)

i got waitlisted last year.. they didnt accept people off the waitlist last year i dunno.

buddyguy, are you sure you let them now that you meant you're applying for the upcoming school year, not applying in the upcoming school year?

I mean, prep schools should have everything all set pretty soon for next year, and you haven't even had the interview or tour yet.

If you are waitlisted does it mean your pretty much rejected??? DO you like get a number like if 18 people don't come you might get in? Has anyone ever been waitlisted then admitted??

frenchvanilla233, I have been on this prep thread for about two year, I recall in that time, one student get lifted off the wait list. She had been accepted to a very nice school that she had committed to, only to change at the last minute. St. Paul's was the school that had initially wait listed her.

Does Andover NEED students? Ah youth!! Wait listed students began calling weekly and didn't stop until school started.

At most schools being waitlisted was a kind way of saying you were qualified but they had no money for you. Lately most schools will outright reject you if they have no money for you. Apply only to those schools where you feel you fit and where as an international applicant you have at least a reasonable chance of getting money. The list is not long.

You are in an extraordinarily competitive pool. Play it smart. Assume that everybody else who applies from Canada will be just as smart or smarter than you, have just as many interests in music, poetry what have you, and either have money or play hockey as well. What is your first choice school? What makes your application stand out at that school?

play hockey??? is that like a major thing? I could start again this season if it will help! Gosh, you guys are so setero-typical! You assume eveyrone plays hockey in Canada! Well you know what soccer is 10 times more popular here and most girls don't play hockey or quit a couple of years ago( like myself).

My first choice school is interlochen... sadly certain people are very discouraging about that school, even though I think I'm an amazing muscian.

frenchvanilla233, If you like the school, that's all that matters. My niece did the interlochen thing over a summer. She is/was the number 1 oboe player in Texas. She has her choice of schools for college. She ended up choosing SMU over a number of schools including Oberlin, rice, and Vandy. I believe she got a full ride. Sweet deal

thanks prepparent, how did she know she was no. 1 oboe in Texas? Compettions? How did she do in interlochen?

Well, that's a good question, competitions. Somehow this then allowed her to play with one of the Texas symphonies.

That's really good, but when she went to Interlochen was she still the best in the school?
Also do you mean for her age?

yes, I believe it was based on age. She went to a summer interlochen program. She is currently a freshman in college. What's amazing to me is that she has not been playing the oboe that long. Is it possible to be so good in like 6 or 7 years. All the schools she applied to, threw lots of money her way. She ended up choosing SMU for two reasons, Her family was relocating to Dallas, and I believe they threw the most money (full ride). I believe she was very close to attending Rice. I didn't know that SMU had a good music program. I guess it is.

i've played for three years and i win competions, and awards etc not best in my Province, but best in like region, school, studio etc.. i'm not saying this because i want to brag, I think I could get 100 times better before I was ever satisfied and that's why i want an art's school like interlochen that will allow me use the potential i think i oubviusly have to become a pro. (even if it doesn't turn out to be my career).
Your friend is really impressive I can't believe people like that exist and aren't scooped up by interlochen's regular program. Why didn't she want to go there? she sounds soooooooo amazing.
