waitlisted....

ok, so i got waitlisted. I've opted to stay on the waiting list. I've reeeeaaallly wanted to go to the U of R since i stepped foot on campus. Do you think they'll be using the wait list this year and any tips on how to get off of it?

write a letter to the adcom reiterating your interest

update them if anything big (and positive) happened to you recently, like you won a state honors prize, etc.

pray (I'd do that anyway. :) )

If you're from the upper atlantic (PA, NJ, NY) or are female, the chances are harder for you than if you're minority, a male, or are from Virginia. U of R has accepted a lot more Virginians lately, though they're private.

johanna,
judging by the regular decision thread, there are quite a few accepted students who will not be able to attend, mainly just b/c of cost, including myself. therefore i would assume waitlisted students definitely have a shot of earning a spot at UR.

speaking of which, what is the best way to let a school know that you will not be attending? I've made my decision and I'm guessing it's best to let the other schools that accepted me know as soon as possible that I will not be attending. any advice on the matter would be much appreciated!

Hi oceangirl--

You received a form with your offer of admission that you can send back--just check "No, I won't be enrolling at RIchmond". You are right that doing that helps us know if we have space to admit people waiting and hoping on the WL, so thanks for remembering to inform us of your plans. Good luck wherever you go! It's our loss, I'm sure.

And Johanna--
The advice from WMalum2006 is good if you are hoping to get in from the WL. We won't know for a few weeks whether or not we'll have an opportunity to use the WL, but we'll try to stay in touch about it. Thanks for hanging in there with us! Good luck!

UR Admissions

Thanks oceangirl, WMalum2006 and UR admission for the tips and 411! I am a female, a Virginian and a minority, and i got first place in my category in the school science fair if that counts. Everything looks like a big plus =D

Make sure you say that in your letter that you should write ASAP.

yeah, in my opinion, the more that they know you want to be there, the more they will want you there. consider this: they have a choice between two similar students-only one gets off of the WL. if one sends letters, comes to campus, tries to set up an additional interview, adds new achievements to the resume, and sends the dean a postcard with "i love richmond!" all over it (ok the last one was a joke), who do you think they will choose? if the answer is obvious to you then it will be obvious to the admission committe. Just let them know that if you got in you would go, you would LOOOOOVE to go, and that you haven't come down with the senioritis bug.

all the rest is out of your hands.

best of luck, hope to see you on campus next year.

ps. personally, i would be someone who would send a love letter, "i love UR" postcard, or something of the sort to the school. Im just lively like that. My point is be yourself, and if you are a good person and you fell in love with UR, give UR has a chance to fall in love w u.
