Waitlisted?

What are people that were waitlisted going to do? How, exactly, does it work? If you put your name on the waitlist and don't get in, what happens? Who is planning on putting their name on the waitlist, and who is planning on just going somewhere else?

I'm planning on accepting my place on the waitlist. I have a friend who was on 2 waitlists last year, so I'll talk to her, I know she made an effort to show her interest in those schools (she unfortunately never got off either waitlist, but in extremely happy where she's at). What school did you apply to? I applied as a theatre major in the school of Communications. As far as not getting off the waitlist goes, it says to accept your place at another university so you have somewhere to go. So, I guess we say yes to NU and to another school and then back out of the other school if we get in? I'm not sure.

Are you even allowed to just back out of another school?

a girl I know did that last summer (there were some kids who got accepted to some UCs in August). She was out some money, but other than that, they cant really force you to go to their school.

Yeah, i guess so. You just have to send them a couple hundred dollars so they think you're coming to their school. Which means, basically, there's no reason not to get on the waitlist.

i got waitlisted... im accepting. no reason not to, just click a button.

I think I might decline it, I already got into caltech and dartmouth and both of those ranked higher on my list.

I got waitlisted. Sucks so bad. I'm not really good enough, but maybe if they don't get the people they wanted they can take me. But hey, it's better than being rejected. I can deal with hoping to get in for another month and then end up going somewhere else. Good luck to everyone on the list!

im taking it as a compliment, that they didnt think i was worthless. yes, everyone else, i give you full permission to decline it :D hehe.

how do you get accepted to caltech and dartmouth, but only waitlisted at northwestern?
Oo

how do you get accepted to caltech and dartmouth, but only waitlisted at northwestern?
Oo

jeeez

touchy
no offense meant, just wondering

mcoledb is just bitter because he got rejected.

that would be funny (and maybe true) if i didnt get accepted. good try though.

peterBATS RULES!

mcoledb, some people judge everything by the US News and World Report. That doesn't mean they have to die. Also, Dartmouth and Caltech, while not necessarily better schools, are probably more selective than Northwestern. You have to admit that it's a little weird that someone got in to both those places, but got waitlisted at Northwestern

anyway, how many people do they waitlist?

Class Entering Fall 2004

From an article in "The Daily Northwestern" May 12, 2004
Quote:
Dixon wrote that university officials expected to dip into its pool of wait-listed students this year, which was almost twice as long as last year's.

"Since our recent history is one of overshooting the size of the class, we did admit somewhat fewer students than in previous years with a strong hunch that we would use the wait list," Dixon wrote. "So, the plan seems to be developing just as we had projected."

Article indicated they needed to get 25 more students from a wait list of about 500 students.

I'm confused- what does this mean for those of us on the waitlist? Only 25 will be accepted? And is that out of 500, I mean all 500 don't accept their spots, right?

yeah, that's last year, so it should be different this year
