Waitlisted?

they said in the last five years 155 at most and 0 at least had been picked, right?

yeah but we can't determine last year, it just said at least 25

oh well.. im still probably not going to nwu... its just waitlisting seems ambiguous. did anyone else find the letter kind of rude? "out of respect.."blah blah. or was i the only one who got that one?

I got the same one...it just seemed oddly worded- not necessarily rude.

So, we probably have about a 10% chance of getting in from the waitlist, right? 500 people were given spots on the waitlist, and usually about half of those accepted a spot. So... 25 out of 250 should get in. That's not that much worse than the odds we faced applying to Northwestern

Nope, you cant generalize that at all. I was on the website, last year it was 25 out of 500, the year before around 100 out of 300, the year before that 1 person out of a much larger number.

wow, this really sucks. I just found out. The worst part is not knowing where I'm going to school until June 20th...that's just wrong...

i agree and i m waitlisted at two schools

waitlisting is actually worse than deferring. because in deferrals, you actually had a shot, with waitlisting, you dont even know if you have a shot. grrr.
did anyone get deferred and then waitlisted? because i really feel sorry for them.

Northwestern doesn't defer applicants. But you're right - that would be horrible!

Being waitlisted definitely sucks, but I suppose it is better than a flat out rejection. Does anybody know if they admit people from the waitlist on a rolling basis, or is june 20th the absolute day when they will inform everyone of their decision?

oh didnt know that. (didnt apply early)

Is anyone actually going to pursue the whole marketing yourself to the school strategy, or are you just moving on and forgetting about it?

well, the message online said BY june 20th. So I guess if, say, May 12th they see that there is definately an open spot and you are the best person for it, they'll tell you sooner. Only an assumption, though. I really have no clue as to how this works...

about the marketing...i dunno. I mean, I really want to get in but what do I send in? More recs? Pictures of me? Gifts? Cash bribes? Lol. I have no idea what to think anymore.

I just don't know if it's worth taking the time for what seems to be a hopeless case. How much does it really help? Also, if you enroll at another school, is it possible to back out if you DO somehow get accepted off the waitlist?

i think you lose your deposit.

Hi guys, getting waitlisted is definitely something disheartening. However, if you really have set your heart to NU, then it is time to get creative. I read that even for the waiting list, there is a ranking. Basically, from the mostly likely ones to the least ones, henceforth, I would suggest you guys to show your continual interest in attending NU in a creative and distinctive manner, so the admission office will notice you uniqueness among all the maitlistees. For instance, a girl who was waitlisted by CMU put life saver candies in a bottle and inserted a note inside, which reads: SOS SOS SOS, I am stranded here inXXXX" and went on to detils how she needed to be rescued by the admission committee to fulfill her dream as a cosmetic surgeon. Such cute and innovative initiatives definitely won the heart of the admission counselors.

Having said that, I hope the very best for all of you and sincerely hope my suggestion will be useful in one way or another. Thank you.
Best,
Bi

I don't know, I am confused too, since Dartmouth offered me a place in early March. I guess it just shows that in the end, its really down to luck.

I looked at some oold boards, and people were being notified as early as May 10th, so there is hope that we'll know before our senior year is over! My guess is that if you haven't heard by June 20th, you're probably not going to be accepted off the wait list. Just a guess, but I would bet that they accept people as needed and by June 20th they expect to have their complete class and then they reject everyone else.
