Should I opt it? What are my chances? Also, when can i appeal?

I feel this is some BS. Unless I blatantly offended someone in my essay, I really dont know *** to make of this. I assumed with MSP invite i would have a good shot at getting in, but i guess BioE:Biotech is just that competitive?

Anybody else get excepted/waitlisted/rejected from BioE:Biotech or BioEngineering, mind posting stats?

ucsd admits you into the school first, then goes through a second process of accepting you either to your first or second, or undeclared major. being bioE has nothing to do with being waitlisted, things just seem to be very competitive this year

also, your essays hold no real weight, they cannot hurt you and they only add points to your comprehensive review if there is something specific there to add.

^IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT MAJOR YOU PICKED! How many times does this need to be said in the history of the world before people understand? It doesn’t matter it doesn’t matter it doesn’t matter.

Yeah, just thought I’d share… I got int Harvey Mudd early, a much more selective school, and I also got waitlisted at UCSD, and have similar stats to yours. It’s just bizarre.

No one knows for sure what the waitlist thing is going to look like since this is the first year they’re doing this (last year was winter admits). So to put it simply, no one can answer your first two questions.

And to answer your last question… you should be able to get the form right away, if not by the end of the month. But to be honest… appeals hardly ever work at UCSD unless you had something dramatic that you did not mention in your application (ie- A friend had cancer in high school but didnt mention it in her application and because of that, she got in).

Also, keep in mind that for appeals for any school, you cant really just say (oh… I got new grades and they’re strait As, or I got a bunch of _____ awards). You have to present information that you could have placed on your application when you were applying (so things pre-November 09) and with UCSD show that you could get more points to get you in via the point system.

This is unbelievable! My sister got in two years ago with 22 on her ACT and a 3.5 unweighted GPA and 4.024 weighted GPA. She did have a ton of EC’s and lots of volunteer.
But I got weightlisted with a 3.8 unweighted and a 4.2 weighted and 2170 on my SAT’s. I didn’t have as much extra curricular but my GPA and test scores were much higher than hers.

and my ec’s… comeon. if sports, college level piano, and 1st place SV science fair / state runner up along with community service don’t do it… not to mention clubs like IRC and key club.

good thing i didnt apply for Medical Scholars Program - guess that time would have been wasted.

I’m sorry you got waitlisted especially with those very impressive stats and ECs. However, it sounds to me like you felt entitled to acceptance into UCSD. That’s your bad and makes you look sort of bad especially when you blame it on affirmative action.

If it’s any consolation, I have several friends that didn’t get into UCSD but are now at Cal, UCLA, and other “more prestigious” universities. It’s obvious that you’re very capable student and I’m sure you’ll have a great college experience at another school if you don’t eventually get into SD.

ucsd is my first choice - even over CAL and ucla. i really thought i had it coming with MSP invite and all the “top applicant” emails from jacobs school of engineering. i guess not though.

oh well, if i dont get it, im just gonna go to UCI. ucsd would be sick cus its on the beach, but i guess if i have to go to uci I will.
