Don’t know…can someone call up and ask the admissions office?

^ i second that motion.

Huh, well, this is half bump to keep this thread current cause i love it, and also curiosity. If anyone gets through, definitely post here! I’ve got IB exams tomorrow and the scheduling/time difference is messed up, otherwise i would call, but im quite interested in the answer =)

I wonder if Columbia is contacting International Students first, since they’ll need more time to make a decision. Not sure, that’s just a speculation. But I’m pretty sure that Columbia won’t be releasing rejections at the same time as acceptances. Usually, rejections are the last things to be sent towards the end of June.

that makes sense… the person who got accepted (on this thread) is from singapore, and her acceptance deadline is the 14th, the day before columbia supposedly starts notifying the rest of us…

well, that’s somewhat reassuring for CC waitlistees =)

Also sort of bad news for those of us waitlisted to SEAS…i don’t want to wait till the end of june for that final rejection. I would much rather them just tell us already…

@cellochick92: I think rejections are last because Columbia (and all the other schools) use waitlists to fill in the holes in their student body left by people who matriculated elsewhere. So if they have too many orchestra students gone, then they’ll need to pick orchestra students off the waitlist. The problem is, these holes aren’t really solid until June. Some students who matriculate to Columbia may end up not going because they’ve been accepted off of the waitlist from Harvard. Those students won’t inform Columbia of their intention to go to Harvard instead until about June.

So it’s dangerous to reject students now when you don’t have sufficient information to rule out an entire category of students. That’s why they send out rejections last.

It sucks, I know. But it’s also understandable. ._.

^lol, that made me feel a bit better, actually. I guess i better hope that every hawaiian cello player accepted to columbia decides to go elsewhere, so i can get pulled ;)

Haha. Me too. I’m a violist and I’m hoping Columbia will realize that violists are freaking hard to find, especially good ones. XD I’m just kind of hoping tons of orchestra kids decided to matriculate elsewhere!

I took myself off Columbia’s wait list a few days ago, so that’s another spot open for you guys! I’ll be heading off to Princeton next year. Good luck to all of you.

Like I’ve said what like 3 times, I know a person who goes to a non-boarding school in NewHaven who got in off the waitlist…it’s not just internationals.

^Did you ever find out any details? Mainly CC or SEAS =)

And @reach4thestars: CONGRATS! :D

The first person who was reported/mentioned to have gotten off from the waitlist (courtesy of plumdum229) was a student from the US :(.

Wops, didn’t notice that plumdum already replied. Sorry!

plumdum229, Correct me if I’m wrong, but If I read your post correctly, it sounds like your friend’s friend got off the waitlist at Barnard, not Columbia. Barnard is not Columbia and does not coordinate its admissions procedures with Columbia’s in any way. If this person got off at Barnard, that means nothing for us.

OMG…
i got an email from Columbia just now that the class is full T.T
oh well…

^Huh, the way I read it plumdum just made it sound like barnard happened to start using its WL the same day as Columbia. I like your interp better ;)

Clarification, por favor?

@eogkr- post it?

@eogkr: Nice ■■■■■■■■. Columbia has no idea if their class is full yet, because other students haven’t dropped Columbia to go to other schools yet. There’s no way that they would send out an email this soon and before May 15th, which should be the day to watch for an email from them updating the status of the waitlist. And to send an email just to you about the overall status of the waitlist? Please.

Get out of this thread if all you’re going to do is mock us.

@Illation, ■■■■■■■■? now you’re making me more depressed.

Dear egokr,

In my prior correspondence, I promised you more news concerning your candidacy for Columbia University.

Our incoming class remains full, which leaves us with the regrettable task of releasing you from our waitlist so that you may go forward with your plans for the coming year. We are confident that the college where you will matriculate this fall will be made richer by your academic and personal contributions.

This has been an extraordinary year at Columbia in that both the quality of the applicant pool and the responses to our offers of admission have exceeded our expectations. We recognize and applaud your record of academic and personal achievement and regret that Columbia will not have the benefit of the contributions you could make here. I am confident that you will be successful in college and wish you the best in all your endeavors.

Thank you again for your longstanding interest in Columbia.

I was on the waitlist for SEAS.

I got that too. I’m an international.
