Waitlisters

are you going to accept or deny?

Sadly I found out even if those accepted originally to the school decide not to go. Pepperdine already established 40% of those accepted would not choose to go to Pepperdine so that even makes it harder for those waitlisted with no chance really..

I just hate this position.

My son doesn’t know yet, it’s a very hard decision! Between here, Loyola Marymount, and USD.

I was also waitlisted at Pepperdine, and I chose to accept a position on the wait list. I was looking at some of the stats from the last couple of years, and I think we might (hopefully!) have a shot at being admitted from the wait list.

2007-2008
Total applicants: 6,661
Total admitted: 2,315
Total enrolled: 752

of students admitted off wait list: 13/868

Freshmen class size: 765

2008-2009
Total applicants: 6,910
Total admitted: 2,378
Total enrolled: 782

of students admitted off wait list: 0/742

Freshmen class size: 782

2009-2010
Total applicants: 6,426
Total admitted: 2,656
Total enrolled: 766

of students admitted off wait list: UNAVAILABLE

Freshmen class size: UNAVAILABLE

2010-2011
Total applicants: 7,949
Total admitted: 2,436
Total enrolled: 628

of students admitted off wait list: UNAVAILABLE

Freshmen class size: UNAVAILABLE

It looks like Pepperdine will admit people off of the wait list if the number of admitted students who enroll is less than 765.

I got all of this data from this website:
[Data Warehouse Overview](Pepperdine Community)

those are horrible chances, sorry but I am not holding my breathe.

Since only 628 people enrolled for the 2010-11 school year, that means that they probably let in around 130 applicants off of the waitlist. It looks like Pepperdine usually puts around 800 applicants on the waitlist, and then of these people around 400 actually accept a place on it. Of course I’m just trying to estimate since the info isn’t available yet, but it seems like they admitted maybe 130 or so students out of around 400 who accepted their place on the wait list for the 2010-11 year.

I guess I’m just saying that you never now what’ll happen! If you accept a place on the waitlist, your chances already go from being 1/800 to 1/400, assuming at least one person gets admitted from the list.

I’m just hoping that the number of students who enroll for this school year will be really low like last year…and not high like 08-09!

I’m not accepting my offer of admissions, hopefully one of you can take my spot as a Wave!

That is very true. And I am sorry I misread the stats I thought it was a 13/400 chance meaning only 13 people get off the wait-list. But wow if your math and stats are right even 100 off the wait-list is stil a good shot thanks CrimsonLavender you have totally made my outlook more optimistic.

Now do they see how soon you accept the wait-list position? hopefully that doesn’t hinder me. But then again why not I just now accepted the wait list I don’t hear back til May for the majority of my other schools ( I am a transfer applicant)

have you spoken to any admin reps and keeping persistent with the waitlist?

best of luck to all of you waitlisters!

I can’t imagine how crappy it must feel to be put through another long wait, after waiting months to hear about your admission decision. My sympathies are with you :(.

I wish we didn’t have to wait until May to find out if we get off of the waitlist! It sucks how, in the meantime, we have to commit to and choose another school to submit an enrollment deposit to. I really wanna go to Pepperdine, but I have to choose one of the colleges I got into, and it’s a hard decision (either St. Edward’s U or Tulane), especially with this permeating sense of hope that I might get into Pepperdine. My number one choice was originally USC, but sadly, I was rejected. :frowning: Being waitlisted feels like being stuck in limbo: you technically weren’t rejected, but there’s still some hope of being admitted. My fingers are crossed that there will be too few students who enroll, which will cause them to have to take a bunch of applicants off the waitlist! :D

One thing I’m worried about, though, is that if you actually get off the waitlist, do you still get decent financial aid? In my case, I would need a lot of aid from Pepperdine. The other colleges that accepted me offered a lot of financial aid, but I’m worried now because of what I’ve read from other people about Pepperdine’s aid. My family is nowhere near rich, and I have a sister who would also be attending college.

It would be a nightmare if I actually were admitted off the waitlist, but wasn’t offered any money! My parents would be like “sorry, you can’t go,” and my dreams would be crushed! :(

I say truthfully I would go with Tulane, and especially because you are guaranteed aid and those two other schools. I wouldn’t gamble with my education.

I really hope I get off the waitlist. I love Pepperdine!!

As someone who was waitlisted for the Fall 2009 academic semester, I can tell you that the chances of Pepperdine accepting students off the waitlist are increasingly slim. I accepted my spot on the waitlist for the term and did everything to show the school I was still interested and committed to attending. I sent a follow-up letter to the office of admissions updating them on my academic achievements for the rest of my senior year and included extracurriculars I had picked up along the way. After sending the letter, I personally visited the school during spring break (early April) to speak to an admissions counselor. In meeting with the counselor, she pretty much said that each year the admissions process becomes more and more competitive and that Pepperdine has accepted fewer than 13-15 students off the list–and that was in 2007-2008.

I really encourage you all to accept the position on the waitlist, but look at your other options too. If Pepperdine is your dream school, you might want to look into their re-apply program for students who previously applied and were either waitlisted or declined. I was persistent in my pursuit to go to Pepperdine and am now an undergraduate majoring in Public Relations. Anything is possible! Good luck!

I will decline my admission to Pepperdine very soon, so hopefully one of you waitlister will be able to take my spot  Good luck!

I will be attending USC’S Marshall School of Business instead!

@ejcmalibu Were you taken off of the waitlist that year or were you accepted during a later year as a transfer?

@nyuhopeful16: I was not taken off the waitlist for Fall 2009. From that point on, I realized Pepperdine was truly my #1 school and that I would eventually transfer. I decided to attend a junior college because Pepperdine, and UCs in general, allocate a certain number of transfer spots to students coming from junior colleges–it would make the transition a lot easier than transferring from another 4-year university or state school (which I almost attended). If you are able to visit the school I really recommend meeting with an admissions counselor not only to show your interest but to talk about other avenues with which you might be able to transfer–I met with a counselor on my visit and kept in contact with her via email updating her on all my transfer classes to make sure they would compute to Pepperdine courses. She also gave me insight on the statistics for admissions for Fall 2009 and elaborated a bit more on why Pepperdine could not admit more students.

I spent the Fall semester (in 2009) at a junior college out in Los Angeles, applied again as a freshman transfer (using Pepperdine’s re-apply process) and was declined for admission as a Fall 2010 transfer. After that, I spent another semester attending junior college and decided to apply as a 2011 Spring transfer. I was finally accepted after my third try and I can tell you that with persistence and passion you can do anything. I spent a total of about a year and one semester at the junior college but took classes every fall and spring semester, with classes during winter intersession and summer session; ended up transferring to Pepperdine with a 3.8 GPA. Let me know if you have any other questions!

@ejcmalibu Wow, I really admire all of your motivation! Thank you so much for telling me about your experiences with Pepperdine. I am going to see how things go with the waitlist, knowing that chances are slim and that I already have my mind wrapped around the fact that I will have to go elsewhere (to another private college that I am very excited about) but I will definitely take all of your advice to heart, and keep those options in mind as I start my first year if I am not taken off the waitlist. Thank you so much, again. Best of luck to you and I hope you enjoy Pepperdine as much as I would!

I just got a call from my admissions counselor today, and he told me that there was space available and I was admitted off of the waitlist!

I was so excited…but then I found out that there is absolutely NO CHANCE of me getting any grants or scholarships from Pepperdine (apparently they don’t have ANY funds left). All I would receive is $5,500 in stafford loans. And for the other $45k, my parents would have to take out a parent plus loan. Are you kidding me? This is ridiculous!

Another weird thing with Pepperdine, the money they offer you when you are admitted is the ONLY aid you get for four years! I don’t know what is up with their system of doing things, but it is definitely different. They basically said that they don’t even take the FAFSA or estimated parent contribution into consideration at all when giving out aid.

So, my worst nightmare has come true. I got into the school that I wanted to go to the most, and they didn’t offer A SINGLE PENNY of aid.

just got a call off the wait-list!

Got off the waitlist and 35K scholarship! Most likely attending even though I already put down my deposit for UCSD. Still SOME time to decide? Lol. Good luck to everyone!

Congrats Ellkayy77, What type of scholarship is it?
