Waitlisting Incoming Freshman

hey guys.
So i guess UCSD updated their classes with extra space for incoming freshman :D

Now i wanted to take Math 20C with Miles Jones [he is under staff for some reason] and well the discussion is at 2:00 with 1 wait list already.

the question also aligns with Public Speaking with Ursula Meyer at 3:30 [she also has 1 waitlist, which is lowest of all other discussions]

Jones' other discussion are available, but should i risk going with the 2:00 discussion [and 1 wait list?]
or go with a 5:00 session?

here is what my schedules with alts. look like: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-san-diego/1198199-classes-freshman-2.html#post13138507
thanks

If you are number one of the waitlist for any class you are going to get in.

Like nicholep said, if you are number 1 on the waitlist for a major class (like math), chances are you’re going to get in.

Waitlist. Seriously, the advice I wish I’d known as a freshman is not to be afraid of waitlisting. The rule of thumb is that around 10% of each class drops the first week (in my experience this isn’t true for required GEs like MMW, but for all other classes, it holds up). Just make sure to go to the class the first week, even if you aren’t officially enrolled yet, so you don’t fall behind.

Also they will open more spots for freshman tomorrow. So most likely u wont have to waitlist.

@samedifference
so if i do attend classes without enrollment, would i speak to the teacher first or roam around like a spy :P

@ealarcon1991 so they continue to open spots?

@spatel23 they did today in the morning, i’m not sure if u have noticed. there are more open spaces than waitlistes. For example there is no waitlist for math 20C. your chances of getting the class depends on ur enrollment time. Good luck =] i’m a transfer so i already go the classes i was planning to get.

well Chem 6A with crowell is full with waitlists :frowning:
hope hope hopeee they open up spots for tomorrow morning [my enrollment time]

quick question guys in relation to waitlisted classes:
so after i register and waitlist for Chem 6A and TDGE 25: Public Speaking,
is it advisable to go ahead and buy the required text books? or should i wait it out and see if I get in?

you’ll get into 6A at some point in the year – you can get that textbook for sure

@spatel23- If it’s a large lecture hall class (which Chem 6A is), you’re probably fine without speaking to the professor. If it’s a small class, let them know. If it’s a section (and you should definitely go to your discussion section while you’re on the waitlist), go up to the TA before class starts and let them know.

another questions:
so i know my chances are high for getting into Chem, but for public speaking [already 3 waitlisters] my chances seem a bit low and iffy.
Should i go ahead and waitlist for that class and enroll in another class [so if i get into public Speaking, i drop my other course] or go with the waitlist only?

hi. so i was wondering, im taking math 20c with oprea, and my discussion time is at 8pm, and the waitlist for the first one at 1pm is 12 people, the one i want. should i change to waitlist or just keep my time at 8? also how is he?

well oprea is the best Math 20C prof ever.
out of curiosity for the 8 PM class are you enrolled or waitlisted?

he is cool, thanks, and i am enrolled. i think i might have taken the last open spot, for now anyways.

i would say to stick with the 8 o clock class because you are in, i wouldn’t risk getting out and losing the chance

oh okay, thanks for your help! :)
