Waivers - PLEASE HELP - Urgent

I'm supposed to highlight my family's income on the 1040 tax return to qualify for a waiver.

Does AP testing take into consideration the "adjusted gross income" or "taxable income" as the income? Because if it is adjusted, I don't qualify for a waiver, but if it is taxable, I do qualify. The only information I could find was that it was the income "after taxes."

Also, if I do get a fee waiver, who ends up paying the rest of it? I am self-studying all 3 of my APs, and I am NOT taking it at my home school. I am taking it at another school because my school doesn't administer the three tests. Do the schools pay for them? If so, which one: the one I'm taking it at or the one I attend?

I checked past posts, but didn't find the answers to these questions.

I live in CA, if that helps.

Thanks.

generally, all costs of AP testing are paid by the student (unless you get a waiver for part of the cost) so unless your school or the other school has a special set-up, you pay the other costs. from the second link I listed below, it does look like california has some special programs set up to defer costs -- but you need to talk with the school where you are taking the test to see if it applies to students not from that school.

The form is looking for the Earned Income -- the amount on the W-2's -- after taxes have been taken out. They are using the same formula that the federal government does to award free/reduced price lunch.

generally -- if you qualify for a government program (like reduced price lunch) then you are eligible
