Waiving Health Insurance

I went to this website:
University of Southern California - University Park Health Center

But I can't find the waiver form for this next school year, 2011-12.

Does anyone know when it will be available?

The waiver forms will be available starting July 5th 2011.

THank you sir.

If we do waive the health insurance, will that be deducted from out financial aid package? Like will the university decrease the “need-based” grant?

I have a waiver question: does anyone know of any cases where students were NOT granted the waiver?

I’m not sure of the specifics of my own healthcare coverage, but I’m pretty sure it will be much less expensive to keep my own coverage than it would be to obtain USC healthcare.

I am confused about the requirement that the coverage be through January 8th in order to receive the waiver. I am thinking that our eligibility is month to month through my husband’s job, perhaps through the end of December. I know our coverage limits exceed what is required so I would hate to have to pay for the USC policy. Anyone else have a similar situation?

No. This is a “fee” and not “tuition” or “board” which is what financial aid is supposed to help cover.

There is a list on the website that details what plans are waived. Since you do not know the specifics, show your parents the site and they will easily be able to tell you if you qualify or not. Most insurance plans do qualify, and since you’re an LA resident (right?) it will probably be best for you to stay on your parents’ plan so you can keep seeing your doctor. (And yes, in most cases, it is cheaper to stay on the parents’ health insurance, but that depends.)

chockisses, when the form is posted for the 11/12 year, you should probably call the health office to explain your situation.

The waiver application is on OASIS. My son applied for a waiver and was approved within 24 hours. He is part of our family plan. We do not pay extra for this so it makes more sense for him to stay on our plan.

I tried to access the waiver form but got this instead:

“The USC student ID number you’ve entered does not match any number we have on file. Please try again or contact the Insurance Administrator at b.well@usc.edu”

Does this have anything to do with the fact that I’m international?

^ No, I’m getting the same exact thing, too! And I know my ID is in the system because it’s the same one I used as an UG and all my other log ins work.

Maybe it has something to do with this?

"You must be actively registered for classes for the 2011 - 2012 school year before starting the online enrollment/request for waiver process. If you are not registered for classes, you will not be able to enroll or request a waiver using the online system.

Once you register for your classes, please wait 3 days before attempting to go online and enroll/request a waiver."

That’s a bit confusing. @researchmaven, how did you get your son’s waiver approved?

My son simply logged into OASIS through the USC portal, went to the health insurance waiver link, and answered all the questions about our family insurance. The system responded that an audit would be performed to ensure that our insurance met the requirements and within 24 hours he received an email stating that the waiver was approved.

Yeah I emailed them and they said you have to wait 72 hours after you are registered fro classes.
