We visited in spring of 2019 and had plans to return in spring 2020, and for S to interview on campus in June 2020. But obviously Covid changed the latter two intentions.
If the school doesn’t want people on campus now, I would respect their preference. The campus is small enough that it would be easy to identify a parent or two walking around with a teen. And, again, the greater good is what is desired here.
To try and offset the lack of info others who want a tour but may never get one are looking for, I can offer a little bit of insight about the campus. It’s beautiful. It’s well-manicured, well-maintained, no trash anywhere (minus a pizza slice that clearly had fallen by accident near a dorm building entrance, and no doubt a squirrel would be taking off with it soon!). The students were casually but cleanly dressed (no one looked like they just rolled out of bed). Students and staff were friendly, courteous, helpful. During lunch time, DH and I sat and ate alongside the main green lawn courtyard and a professor or two had their dogs out running around, and interacting with students, etc. It was like Disney College in some respects. I mean that in a good way. S, H and I all felt happy, upbeat and pleasantly surprised at how much we liked everything we heard and observed. We could definitely picture our S being a student there.
(Disclaimer: I almost ended up at WF for grad school MANY years ago, but it would have been for terminal master’s degree and I was also applying to doctorate programs. When I received an admissions from the latter, I chose to decline my WF acceptance but part of me was quite sad about that at the time!)
Dorms we didn’t get to see but all said they were fine. Again, I was most struck by the positive energy seen and observed, the kindness and friendliness of all, the focused feel of the students on campus, and the neatness (well-maintained) feel of the small campus and its students.
The two drawbacks to WF that we observed were: (1) little diversity - very white campus when we visited and seemingly wealthy (as also reflected by the vehicles in the student parking areas). Our S is Hispanic (we adopted him as a newborn) and prefers much diversity (as do we) and yet H saw this as no reason not to pursue applying to WF at all. He liked everything he saw on the tour (and a couple hours after the tour of walking around with a student we knew who attended there, just he and our S) so much that he didn’t mind that it wasn’t as diverse as some of the other schools he applied to.
The other drawback was distance to an airport. Not a big deal, but sure, a school that has an airport within 30 minutes would be ideal. (Some of the schools he is applying to are much more easily accessible.) This drawback was not something that would dissuade us or S from considering WF if he gets accepted. And, to be honest, I can’t recall how far it was from the airport, but in my mind it was farther than I would prefer. But I’m just being a bit picky.
HTH.
