Wake Forest Interview: Who is the interviewer?

My child has a strong desire to attend. Does anybody know: is interviewing done by admissions staff or professors?
Thank you.

My D’s interview was done by one of the admissions counselors.

Thank you, adjaclaw

All interviews, whether done in person or via Skype, are conducted by the Admissions Counselors. Professors never get involved in the Admissions process, although if you have specific questions about a Major, the Admissions staff can arrange for a prospective student to speak with a Department Head to get those questions answered.

Good luck! Go Deacs!

Honestly disappointed with my daughter’s experience. She was interviewed by the head of school diversity. Thought it was a waste of time and money to be interviewed by someone who is trying to bring in students unlike my daughter!
He certainly was not in her corner. She should have been assigned to someone else. Just saying…

@charlieFL what do you mean not in her corner?

Many students in my son’s school interviewed -some in person, most by webcam. They all shared their stories and the framework of the interview was identical no matter which admission counselor conducted the interview. My son’s webcam interview was done with the diversity counselor which made absolutely no difference. He was accepted.

Retracted.

The school has a small staff. You’re going to get people from various “schools” for interviews. They are trained to be impartial, but also to understand the unique circumstances that students come from.

All interviews are conducted by the Admissions Counselors. Professors, Administrative Staff, Department Heads, Alumni and Leaders of the various schools do not get involved in the initial interview process. The Admissions Department does not add people to deal with overflow. There are a set number of interview slots every year based on the current staffs schedules. If you don’t sign up early enough to get one of those slots, you are out of luck.

Each Admissions Counselor are also responsible for specific territories (ie States) and/or specific areas of recruitment. Since diversity of the student body is a big focus for the University, there is an Admissions Counselor who is responsible for Diversity Recruitment. There are also Counselors responsible of International Recruitment, Transfer Recruitment, Scholarship Recruitment, etc.

Every interview, whether in person or via Skype has the same general format. The Counselors have a list of questions that are designed to elicit responses from the prospective student that give the staff some additional insight into the students character, desires, and academic prowess. They may also use the interview to delve more deeply into a specific issue that was flagged when the application was received and read for the first time.

@charlieFL To suggest that a Counselor has a bias because of their Recruitment responsibilities is not accurate. If you and your daughter are uncomfortable interacting with people of diversity, then I would strongly suggest that Wake Forest University is not the place for you. Just saying…

Totally missing the point! Several recent WSJ articles spotlighted what private elite schools are doing behind the scenes.

@charlieFL I didn’t miss your point. It was perfectly obvious.
