My daughter will be touring Wake Forest in the next couple of weeks. We have scheduled her interview right after the tour. What is appropriate attire for the interview?

I posted this same question last winter (although I asked for my son). I think a skirt and top or sweater would be fine. My son wore an oxford shirt and khaki pants and was fine although he did see boys in jackets and ties. Girls can get away with being a tad less formal because they can dress up whatever they are wearing with some nice jewelry.

I would just wear business casual and look presentable. Tie and jacket are optional.

Just be sure your daughter wears comfortable shoes for the tour - you would not want to do that in heels. Otherwise - nice casual is fine - no jeans/t-shirts/shorts/flip-flops.

I was there last month and paid attention to what the prospective students wore because I wondered whether there would be a tendency for them to dress up more given the South. I saw a wide range of outfits on both the young men and women. The young women who looked the most at ease were wearing nice but comfortable clothes. There were young men who looked so starched I doubted they would be able to relax in the interview, and there were young women in business attire. But, again, the ones who looked the most confident waiting to be called back were the ones who did not appear to be overdressed (i.e. dressed by their mothers or an outside source!). My hope is that WFU looks for authenticity and will not judge an applicant by his or her dress, assuming it’s not way off the mark.

i wore a nice golf shirt and khaki pants with dress shoes. nothing too dressy.

Good Luck,
J

Wake did a study and one of the top complaints about its students by faculty was there weren’t enough out of the box personalities. I think the example they specifically used was someone with a pink streak in their hair. Having some sort of flair or personality in your dress could be to your advantage.
