I am scheduled for an interview soon at Wake and want to be prepared. I'm pretty sure Wake is my first choice and I'm traveling from PA so I want it to be an effective trip. What kind of questions should I expect?? What are they looking for? I would really appreciate some advice!

My son’s interview started with questions about his HS classes and activities. They spoke a little about books he had read, plans for college, career aspirations, etc. But, the “meat” of the interview was a discussion on both sides of the death penalty issue. I don’t know how they got on topic, but the interviewer heard something from Son that got them going.

I think it really helped Son that he was able to maintain a conversation about such a mature topic. I don’t mean to say that you should be able to discuss a legal/social controversy. But, I think you should have something in mind that can demostrate you’re an aware young adult and a capable thinker. For example…NFL lockout, London riots, tornado recoveries, 10th anniversary of 9/11, etc.

FYI, Son’s interviewer was a retired Political Science professor. Don’t be surprised if your interviewer comes from outside the Admissions staff.

Good luck!

I’m interested in interviewing with a Wake Forest interviewer, but would I have to travel all the way to North Carolina for that? My friend’s mom mentioned that other schools have reps across the country, and being in Southern California, a trip to NC might not be possible for me.

Wake Forest offers Skype interview to students too. However, I would do a bit of preparation beforehand and get familiar/comfortable with using Skype.

Best of luck.

So Cal Student,
Please contact Kevin Pittard (pittark@wfu.edu), the SoCal rep and see if he will be doing interviews in your area. Even if he is not interviewing, try to meet him. He is very helpful and a good person to know. Good luck.

Wow thank you both so much for the help with my question. Wake’s a great school, and I’m sure an interview will help me in the eyes of the admissions board.

Thanks again!
