I heard that Wake is more of a "Southern School" vs. Duke being more balanced between those from the Mid-Atlantic, Northern and Southern States.

Is this true?

Is this true?

Only 25% of Wake's students are actually from NC, but I don't know about how many are from the rest of the south. Regardless, Wake has a pretty southern feel/image and Duke absolutely does not. Just another easy reason to hate Duke for all of us here.

That's not necessarily a good thing. I visited Duke and have been to Duke during my college career at Wake. The students at Duke I feel have a sense of false self-entitlement and are not as friendly as students at Wake Forest.

i visited Duke and Wake within two days of each other the summer before my senior year and i agree with wilmingtonwave. everyone at Wake seemed friendly and sincere, while those i met at Duke seemed arrogant and snobby. imo

rschlegel420. well, i felt the exact opposite from my visiting. but don’t worry, i still love wake forest over duke

When I went for my interview, I was informed that most students at Wake are from the southeast.

When I had my Duke interview, I was told that Duke has many students from the north and mid-atlantic.

<a href=“Home - Office of Institutional Research”>Home - Office of Institutional Research;

2007-08 enrollment
south 54% - 2388 , of which 25% of total enrollment is North Carolina (is Virginia ,276 students, still a south state?)
mid atlantic & new england 31%-1401
west and international-14%- 623

Does this make it a southern school?
Maybe , but there is some geographic diversity.

Interesting that the second largest state represented (278) is the Garden State !!!

“is Virginia ,276 students, still a south state?”

Northern Virginians (DC suburbs) would say no ;)

I think that many of us who live in metro areas of NC don’t necessarily feel southern either…

If Southern = more Greek, less diverse, more preppy and less grungy, more outwardly friendly, then Wake is clearly > Southern than Duke.
