<p>So I have narrowed it down to these two. Money really isnt to much of a factor although Tulane is a little bit cheaper. I plan on studying history and pre-med but of course that will change. Im looking for nice well rounded people to spend my next 4 years. Also I want to make sure that I am having fun and not just constantly working. I liked both campuses alot, but I have to say Wake's was nicer. Tulane however has the better city, unfort I didnt get to go into Winston-Salem. I just need some more ideas on a fit. I dont want to go an overly conservative school which I am fearing Wake is. So if anyone has anything to help me with my decision id love to hear it. Thanks.</p>
<p>I had this same question earlier in the year, because Tulane did a very thorough job of recruiting at me--offering me a very good deal on tuition. I think Tulane is quite questionable what with the whole natural disaster and all. And that's not just shallow knee jerk reaction. One of my mentor's daughters just graduated, and spent a good deal of time there, apparantly there is a lot of infastructure that needs to be rebuilt. Also many of the top proffessors, and students, that made Tulane stand out before have decided to goto other Universitiies. I know Wash U in STL stole at least one prof. Going to tulane, is assuming a large risk because things will definatly be different there then they ever have been. This could either provide a very unique and positive opporunity, or it could create a quite ackward freshmen expeirence...it remains to be seen.</p>
<p>Well, if diversity is a factor in your decision, you should def go to Tulane! New orleans has a ton of diversity and, even though I havent been there, it seems like a fun city (MARDI GRAS!!!). Not to mention, the great food all throughout the city (hopefully, some additional stores will reopen if you decide to go). I didnt apply to Tulane, but surely, Tulane is starting to be known as a prestigious campus. I was watching greys anatomy once lol and i saw one of the doctors wearing a Tulane shirt. Wake forest is pretty conservative, i think, since its a school that holds religious upbringing, i believe, correct me if im wrong... So you have 2 VERY DIFFERENT SCHOOLS, tulane (party, big school) and wake forest (peaceful with a few parties here and there, small school) GOOD LUCK!! WHICH EVER ONE YOU PICK IS A GREAT SCHOOL!!!</p>
<p>Ummm... I more or less completely disagree with everything that Mojo said about Wake. If you're into parties, you'll have no problem finding one whenever you want to. And about the "religious upbringing," Wake isn't officially associated with any church and hasn't been since at least the 1980s (I'm not sure about the date, exactly). Religious life is fairly big here, and a lot of people go to various religious group meetings, but I think thats more of a result of our being in the South rather than being a religious school. And there's certainly no pressure for people who aren't religious.</p>
<p>I chose Wake over Tulane, but I was never really seriously considering Tulane. I didn't want to go to school in a huge city, and I also didn't want to go to a school that large (although the student body size isn't huge, it's still about double Wake's). Ultimately, the choice is your's and different people might make completely different choices. Mojo's right, though, that there's not a bad choice. Good luck.</p>

<p>Actually the largest religious denomination is Roman Catholic.</p>
<p>WFU is not an "overly conservative" school...possibly compared to Berkeley, etc...but it is a national university with no religious ties and from what I have heard plenty of liberal students/faculty on campus. Contrary to other places seen as liberal schools, there is actually diversity of thought there too and not just one overarching liberal perspective. Definitely a misconception.</p>

<p>Moostermister--I would seriously consider going and visiting New Orleans before I accepted an offer at Tulane. I am a big fan of New Orleans, but the NO of today is not the NO that everyone knows and loves. IT WILL BE, but it will take several years before everything returns to "normal". Tulane--for the most part--has been cleaned up, but even in very nice places within the city (St. Charles Street, for example), you still see really terrible destruction.<br>
On your other point, Wake is not that conservative. You will have a great time and find tremendously liberal people if you wish, or you can hang out in the library and socialize with no one. Like most college experiences, it's all about what you make of them.</p>
<p>I actually already visited NO and it was up and running. I made my decision to attend Tulane actually. They just sent a revised form, I guess more money is available and they gave me a 3g scholarship towards room and board I believe. Although I was already leaning there it def made my decision easier since it was already cheaper.</p>
