playwrights horizons or film/television? i feel like the playwrights horizons school would open more doors since i would be learning about directing itself, whereas in the film/television program i would be learning many different things but only regarding the screen, not the stage, if that makes sense.
(note: i am aware i can apply to both, but this would be for early decision)
I would go with Playwrights Horizons if I were you. Film and Television is a very collaborative major, and while you would learn how to direct, a lot of time is spent on developing familiarity with the most technical aspects of filmmaking, while PH is a program catered to directors. Unfortunately, directing for film is an entirely different beast than directing for theater, so ultimately you should make your decision based on the field you are fondest of.
@Rougarou Thanks for the advice. My problem is not being able to decide which field I’m fondest of. In any liberal arts college I could take a few classes from both and declare later, but with Tisch I have to choose right off the bat. I tell myself I’d be happy working in film even if I wasn’t directing, so Film/Television may be better in that case.
