Want to know where I stand

Yeah this is pretty much another one of those What are my chances posts.. but I haven't got too much feedback from that thread so I was hoping that by posting here I could get some more on where I stand in getting accepted into Dartmouth.

still a junior going to a great high school (top 10 in NY)
GPA: 3.5 (90.5-91) unweighted
SAT's: 2250
SATII: bio-660 level II math - 720

freshman year: regular classes
sophmore: all honors
junior: honors precalc, AP Eng/U.S. History
senior (most probably): 4 AP's (calc, economics, psych, science), creative writing/shakespear (half year english courses), language

EC's:
sports: football (captain), winter/spring track (captain) year round
volunteer hours: 100+ at a hospital, i also have been doing church work since i was a freshman.

my essays are pretty much solid.. not based on just my opinion but others have said that as well and my teacher recommendations are great

Thanks in advance.

You already did your essays and tests, and you are a junior??

sorry that was really unclear lol i meant that my writing was solid and that i already know who im gona have do my teacher recommendations and that their known to write great college recommendations

Hi Steve,

It looks like you have good grades and scores and have taken a few challenging classes. Unfortunately, I don't see anything leaping off the screen that is especially unique or different. It looks like you really enjoy volunteering at the hospital -- maybe you can expand and deepen your experience there this year so it becomes something really special. Also, make sure you work hard to get your GPA and scores up.

I encourage you to apply to Dartmouth but I fear the outcome may be disappointing with so many other highly-qualified applicants. Dartmouth is a wonderful school though and worth working hard for -- so don't give up yet! Good luck!

Would you be recruited for football? You might want to talk to the coach.

your SAT's are good but your GPA is a bit low, i think. but since your a junior i wouldn't worry about it too much. you should apply though because you never know. good luk eith applying next year.

I normally don't do chances but I have to agree with Jen & B'smom that unless you are getting recruited for either track or football there is nothing about your application that leaps off the screen.

Even though the largest group of students in the class come from NY, CA, & Ma (with NYC having the lion's share of NYers) as you know, coming from NYC is going to put you at a disadvantage because the pool of applicants is really big. Not only will you be in the pool with students from Bx. Science, Tech, Stuy, Hunter, Harris, NYC Lab, you are also going to be competing with the elite private NYC day schools, students from LI and Westchester County, many who are going to bring stronger profiles to the table.

Definitely work to bring up your GPA, add some depth and breadth to your ECs (taking on more responsibility) and have what ever your passion is come through in your essay.

But hey, if you don't toss your hat in the ring you have a 0% chance of being accepted.

Steve:

I can't comment on chances since I am clueless on what goes on behind those closed doors. But, on another thread, you posted your 40 time as a 4.5, which is movin'. You might send Coach Buddy Teevens an e-mail to see if he has any interest.

Thanks blue, I'm definitely going to keep working on that 40 time but the thing is my 4.5-4.6 was hand timed, so its not 100% accurate of course. If i ran 4.5-4.6 FAT that would be a different story so hopefully with the work I'm putting in I can pull it off !
