Wanting statistics background

I’m double majoring in history and political science (+ two minors: political economy and philosophy & law). A lot of the graduate programs I am most interested in blend political science and economics. My problem: I want a statisitics background. I don’t want to add a third major and my uni doesnt offer a minor in statistics. I see four options:

  1. Don’t do anything about it.
  2. Get an associate’s degree in statistics (there are not many of these programs).
  3. Get some sort of certificate in statistics.
  4. Minor in math.

Anyone care to share adivce?

Get a Master’s in Statistics.

You don’t need to have a minor to take classes in a subject.
Drop Philosophy&Law (2 majors and 2 minors is a lot, BTW, and is not necessary); simply take classes in Statistics. All universities will have a set of 3-4 statistics classes. Start with Statistics (preferably calculus-based), then intermediate statistics and econometrics, then one or two more. List those under “relevant coursework” on your resume.

Yes, option 5 is to take the desired stats classes without completing a major or minor. The same can be true of your other interests - you don’t need to declare a major or minor for every interest you have. For example, you can take econ principles and intermediate micro to get an econ background without minoring in it. Grad programs will look directly at your transcript.

You can just do one major and add electives of interest. E.g. major in political science and add courses in history, economics, math, statistics, philosophy, and whatever else you like.

I’ve already finished my history degree and have three more classes needed for political science.

Would a certificate in statistics be useless?

No, it would be very useful.
