I will have the 30 minimum units for USC to look at only my Community College grades. This fall of 2006 is my first semester in college as i just graduated from high school earlier in June. I'm a male, 18 years old in southern cali about 20 miles away from USC.

My current gpa which is not set in stone since it is my first semester is perhaps either a 4.0 or 3.8 .. .. . . . it could possibly grop down to as low as a 3.6 cause of a stickler teacher but i hope that is not the case. My first intended major is Political Science, 2nd choice Creative writing...

In high school I was in the philosophy club, acting club, choir club, skating club, performed the lead in all the schools drama productions, part of the EOPS Older Brother Foundation where I helped middle school kids attain confidence...and also tutored elementary kids every day for half a year.

Now here in my first semester in college I'm part of the Model UN Club, Film and Tv club, Philosophy Club and Photography club. Also, plan to do community service with Habitat for Humanity.

What are my chances of getting in USC for the Fall 2007?

I would obviously be entering as a college sophmore which I hear from my friend that goes to USC that they prefer students transferring their into USC their sophmore year.

You will notice that my majors are both in the letters of arts and sciences. Does it matter what major i jot down? Do the gpa's go higher or lower based on the major?

What should i do to maximize my chances of being accepted?

Take the 2 english comp. courses
Take a college level math (preferably pre calc or higher)
A natural science course
Some social scince courses (psychology, sociology, ethics, logic...that kinda stuff.
Or just look on the USC websites for pre-reqs for your major. Mainly prep yourself just like you're already at USC. And get a good GPA (3.3 or higher for most unimpacted majors, 3.5 plus for Marshall)

Look at USC's pre-req's first...don't just randomly pick classes from english. comp, social sciences, etc. Alot of stuff doesn't transfer, so make sure everything you're taking transfers by checking with a USC counseler or their site.

Hey Freshprince, Yea...my classes are as follows...

Current (Fall 2006):
Math 80a (College Algebra)
English 100
Anthro 100
History 241
French 101

(All of those specifically transfer to USC as my classes are based on the USC Articulation Agreement.)

My Classes For The Coming Spring 2007:

English 102
Math 80b
Poli Sci 101
Sociology 100
...and possibly Astronomy or something else, which i still need to decide on.

All of those spring 2007 classes are also transferable to USC and the poli Sci 101 class is the only class I can take at a community college that builds towars the poli sci degree which im majoring on.

I was adviced by USC to not continue my foreign language in the spring 2007 semester because if i get accepted into USC for the fall 2007 I will need to take a language placement test. They adviced I just take the spanish test at usc then (since it is my native language) and i can possibly test out of taking any language classes.

I know the info I gave wasn't totally cut and dry, I was just giving him the basis of what colleges look for out of transfers. Of course he should look at the prereqs for the major (like I had already said, btw), I just anted to give him more than just a GPA to aim for.

To El Rey: Yeah you're schedule looks good. I believe (not sure) PoliSci is an impacted major so keep that GPA up. I think you have a good shot

Couldn't hurt. Another thread you should look at is the USC Transfer thread. I think it's a few pages back in the USC thread....too lazy to look lol It's on here somewhere...very helpful though
