I currently have my weighted GPA on my Common App. I have already applied to USC, Dartmouth, and a couple of safeties. This I did because I'd heard that colleges prefer the weighted GPA whenever available, presumably because it allows them to evaluate performance within one's school with more precision, but since applying I've heard that top schools prefer unweighted GPAs because the provision of such figures better allows them to compare all of their applicants. Am I screwed? Both GPAs are listed on my transcript.

Bumpity bump.

I don’t think it matters much. As you can see, the CA has you mark “weighted” or “unweighted” next to your GPA. I have heard that they prefer unweighted, since it is more fair in comparing students from different schools (since many schools do not weight at all, so their students w/ all A’s in every class and many AP’s would have a 4.0, whereas the same student in a school with weighting might have a 4.5!). However, I have also heard, as you mentioned, that the selective colleges will just unweight your grades if you (or the school) presents a weighted GPA. And some colleges unweight them and then do a re-weighting, using their own formula! If you have more apps, I’d stick with giving the unweighted GPA on your CA.

It doesn’t matter. You counselor will have uploaded your transcript and the school will go off of the data on your transcript. No need to worry unless you blatantly lied about your W GPA or UW GPA.
